About This Pipe
Though Li Zhesong is heavily influenced by the Danish school, one can help but see a touch of Industrial Design-esque linework in his compositions as well, in this case serving to keep an otherwise muscular, fairly heavy design nice and lively. This is achieved through a combination of the bowl's light forward cant, continuous line at the underside, and upward-flicking shank and stem combination which aid in balancing out the mass of the bowl. As for the grain, fine flame and birdseye is brought out by quite a warm choice of stain, paired to a lighter boxwood mount for an added charm. A seriously handsome piece.
