Sandblasted Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

Formerly known as the American Pipe Making Exposition, our annual Global Pipe Making Exposition features contributions from some of the world's foremost artisans, all united around a central theme. One of the most exciting events of the year for carvers, smokers, and enthusiasts of briar alike, the Global Exposition acts not only as a showcase for the immense talent of these artisans but as a focus for the boundless creativity that these masters of the art possess. For 2026, the theme of our Expo is "The Art of the Sandblast," celebrating the artistry and craftsmanship behind one of the most meticulous finishing techniques in pipe making. Through the sandblast, these artisans transform the natural grain of briar into textured works of art, highlighting the unique character of each block and demonstrating the artistry of the technique.

Pete Prevost, the co-founder of BriarWorks and a supremely talented independent artisan in his own right, has presented us with a lovely bent Dublin for this year's Expo. This panel-shanked design is a specialty of Pete's, with each iteration more impressive than the last, and this particular offering is certainly no exception to that rule. The bowl is quite tall and trim, with a fairly reserved flare toward the plateau-crowned rim. The heel of the bowl is quite rigid thanks to the crisp ridgelines that flow continuously through the curved shank and finely made saddle stem. Said stem features an inlay of sandblasted briar that perfectly matches the stummel: a testament to Pete's penchant for thoughtful detail. Another such detail is the dynamic texture of the sandblast, which is craggiest at the plateau-crowned rim but grows gradually softer and more subdued toward the shank; this gradient of texture is quite pleasing, both to the eye and to the fingertips. A lively auburn stain tops everything off, further unifying the stummel with the briar inlay of the stem. An impressive showcase of skillfully sandblasted, well-aged briar, and unmistakably "Pete" in its shaping, this bent Dublin is sure to delight any admirer of beautifully constructed, finely finished pipes.
