Prince Albert - Prince Albert 14oz
King of Codgers
There is a reason this blend has been around for so long and the reason is because it’s wonderful. It packs easily and lights easier than any other blend I’ve had the pleasure of trying. The taste is an amazing burly nuttiness with a very light chocolate sweetness. Burns all the way down to ash without any dottle. It is not complex but sometimes you don’t need complexity you need a reliable smoke that will deliver time after time.
Cobblestone - Outdoors Hunting 1.75oz
Perfect amount of complexity
The tin note is a sweet molasses that almost reminds me of a sweet feed for cattle or horses. It comes right out of the tin ready to smoke tho some may prefer to give it a few minutes to dry before packing. Virginia leads the show with a sweet hay taste with the nutty burley following. The perique pops up now and again as a slight spice. Overall it’s a great blend that strait-forward but has some complexity to it as well. It has secured a spot in my rotation and is quickly making its way to Top 5 territory.
Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation - 1931 Flake 1.76oz
Almost 5/5
This is a great flake it rubs out easily and burns with few relights. The scent is amazing just a great strait Virginia smell with a slight sweet/fruity topping that’s barely noticeable. The taste is an earthy/grassy/stone fruit Virginia. I love this flake but I can’t help but feel something is missing and it’s possibly age because the tin I received only had a few months age on it. I’ll be buying another few tins some for now and some to cellar for a year or two.

Chocolate covered cherries
I want to start off by saying I don’t care for many aromatics I prefect Virginia and VaPer blends but this is amazing. It’s as advertised chocolate and cherry and there is no medicine taste. I only have one fault with this blend, it is a bit wet so I like to crack my tin a week before I plan to start smoking it. Also not a blend I could smoke now than once or twice a week but it’s a nice change at times.
Warped - The Red Hunt 2oz
Wow
This is one of my favorite blends. The tin note reminds me of a good wine with strong fruit scents and boozy undertone. It’s very easy to rub the broken flakes out and packs great into a bowl. No dry time is needed just crack the tin and pack a bowl. It lights very easily and requires few to no relights throughout the smoke. The taste is also excellent it’s a smooth smoke that is Virginia forward. The perique takes a back seat but it is for sure there and I will hit pockets in the bowl that the oriental shines through. Not super complex but it’s not a one note blend either. It’s a very enjoyable all day smoke that is believe will have excellent cellaring potential I haven’t been able to keep a tin for more than a couple months tho!
Peter Stokkebye - PS402 Luxury Twist Flake
Middle of the Road
This is a typical Virginia with what my palate picks up as a caramel topping. It’s not bad but it’s also not great. There are many other better Virginia’s out there but this is a good bulk option. I plan to place this in the cellar and come back to it in about 5 years and see what I think then.
Capstan - Flake Blue 1.75oz
Satisfying
As a Virginia lover I knew I was going to enjoy this flake before I even tried it but I was surprised by just how much I like it. There is a tin note or sweet hay and dried fruit and the taste is mellow satisfying. There only thing holding this back from being a 5 is the price point. I plan to use this more for a treat and special occasions so it won’t be making into my normal rotation. Update: 5 stars for sure. The price is still upsetting but with the recent 20% off deal I bought a few more tins to put away. This is by far the best Virginia I’ve ever had it hits all the notes for me and is satisfying time after time. I still can’t afford to put this as an all day blend but it’s so good it has found a way into my rotation. I smoke it once a week on average when I have the time to sit and really enjoy the blend. Everyone should try this blend my advice is try to shop the sales!
Missouri Meerschaum - 150th Anniversary 1.75oz
One and done
This has an amazing tin and room note that my wife loved. My only complaint is the weak flavor. From start to finish the aroma of vanilla was there but I wasn’t satisfied by the end of the bowl.
Cornell & Diehl - Autumn Evening 2oz
Peace and Comfort
This blend is my go to after good meal or when I want a little sweetness. Maple is the star of the show here. No relights and burns down to the bowl. Great blend
Peterson - Early Morning Pipe 50g
Perfectly Named
Never smoked a tobacco more appropriately named. A light Latakia with Virginia forward blend with the oriental playing a supporting role. Slightly sweet with a very good amount of smoke. Goes great with a cup of coffee in the morning and this is a great place to start for anyone looking to try an English for the first time.
