About This Pipe Tobacco

Escudo Navy Deluxe, is a classic and extremely popular Virginia-Perique composed of full-bodied Virginia tobacco from North Carolina and Virginia mixed with Louisiana Perique. The tobaccos are then pressed and given time to mature before being sliced into coins.

Escudo really is very good, with soft, sweet, bready Virginias and piquant Perique. For some it is the archetypal VaPer blend, the yardstick by which all others are judged. I wouldn't go quite that far, but I do enjoy it. However, I will not pay $20 or more for a tin. If it were cheaper, I would rate it higher....Read More

Outstanding smoke. Definitely recommend. I purchased some at a small local cigar shop while waiting on an order. This has actually won me over. Cost is not a big deal. Solid vaper with flavor and strength

This is a banger of a vaper. It has all the hallmarks of your average va flake; bread, honey and citrus, with the deep dark fruit and spice of perique. What sets this vapor above the average one is body and strength. When most people think of Virginia tobacco they think mild in strength due to the high sugar content. While the truth is, there are red Virginia strains out there with nicotine levels more akin to burley and even knocking on the perique door. Escudo has chosen a red with a significant nicotine level when mixed with the proportionate perique in the blend, has some kick. That kick does not degrade the sweetness and flavor, however, making this an example of fine blending....Read More

A lot has been said about this classic VaPer it really needs no introduction. So I’ll limit this review to my experience with it. My first time trying this was at my local B&M. They had an open tin that already had 11 years of age to it. The guy behind the counter was gracious enough to let me sample one of the rolls. And, It was an absolute delight. The perique, while present was very rounded off. Hint of zest but no sting. The Virginia was like warm brioche. I currently have a tin from 2024 that I’m smoking, while very pleasant it’s very different from its aged counterpart. I currently have 10 tins put away for cellaring.
