t hasn't changed in decades. In an world where tradition is frowned upon, it almost feels revolutionary .
This , by modern standards, is not really an aromatic . However, there is a charming sweet edge to it that counterbalances the core sweet Virginia and solid Burley base . It's a medium mild smoke , ideal for daytime tasks and the nicotine hit seems decent to my previously non-smoking body.
I keep a few pouches of this around, but I can see myself getting a can of this as it really is rather comforting. That's the word - this is a comforting blanket on a week day. I start the day with Early Morning Pipe and then move into this around lunchtime.
Tobacco snobs will most likely think this is beneath them . I think that's unfair - a brand doesn't survive this long without reason.

I was never a fan of the original SWR, however if your looking for an excellent non-goopy aromatic this is a blend I highly recommend.....especially for new pipe smokers! You won’t be disappointed!!!

of the caramel, honey, and brown sugar initially, and then the flavors of the liqueurs came on. It was absolutely perfect, a stunningly good smoke. Also, when I’ve smoked this around others they commented on a chocolate/caramel aroma.

his on the otherhand is Delicious. It's topping is very noticeable but the flavor of the tobacco comes through. First thing one notices when lighting is the strong flavor of honey with a hint of anise. This flavor is fairly consistent throughout the smoke though very potent at the first few puffs. As far as the room note goes I once had a man approach me in a park and tell me he could smell it from around the block as he was raving about how good it smells. or years to remember what he actually smoked hoping to try it for myself someday. During WWII he probably smoked Lucky Strikes, but no one remembers what he smoked in his pipe. So, for years I relied heavily on whatever I'd come across to help jog my faded memory. When I saw Sir Walter Raleigh online a light bulb went off. Suddenly, I thought of Granddad's old lazy chair, the end table where he often laid his pipe, and a fuzzy image of a pouch of tobacco that seemed to come into focus just a bit. I ordered a pouch of Aromatic to try first. It is a thin shag more suited for RYO cigs than a pipe but it did alright. I couldn't taste Virginia or Burley through the flavoring though. It is heavily topped with some alcohol that did nothing but burn hot for me. I don't want to give the wrong impression. It seems to have a uniqueness to it, but as aromatics go, I like a more subtle topping. It does pack well and stays lit. It could even continue burning if left unattended. It's not an ultra-sweet candy tobacco. It has more in common with Borkum Riff Bourbon Whiskey than say, a Captain Black OTC. It's not overly moist, which I liked. Ultimately, I like to think SWR's Aromatic version is probably not what Granddad smoked. The room note rang no childhood memory bells. Overall, I wouldn't buy this for myself, but I do see what others may like about it. I wanted to like this one, to find that familiar aroma from my childhood, but this wasn't it. and the after taste is pleasant. It doesn't have the typical vanilla taste and aroma that smells like marshmallows as most aromatics. It's an all day smoke and is pleasant while working or relaxing. This is my everyday smoke. Read Less

Think of a tobacco like Sir Walter Raleigh, so universal, so widespread and you'll get a glimpse of what inmortality is. The virtue of excellence.
I remember its particular fragrance as a child visiting the doctor who smoked this in copious ammounts (in a country which was ages away from strict modernity) an indelible remembrance. Later, as an adult i found it again, now as a pipesmoker. Sir walter raleigh, such a classic. And yet this is simply words, you have to taste it in order to find the true meaning.
Burley indeed, so mellow and a tad sweet with mild nic hit, very amicable and easy going, good for the morning, the day, the evening, or finishing the day. With enough aroma to keep you enamoured and sufficient nuttyness as a pack of almonds. The blend circunvents some subtle cocoa traces with liquor (especially felt in the tongue) and changes its chracteristic flavours from mild to medium during the smoke, well mannered, kind, fragrant. Its fragrance will enchant the place you are and the people around, as it did with me, as it did with the generations that has granted its fame. Read Less

being said, I just didn’t care for it. It bit just slightly. The nicotine content was right where it should be, in the medium-to-low end of things. But, the aromatic taste just wasn’t there for me. Honestly, I think regular SWR is soo much better, and has better flavor and taste for me. Aromatic just didn’t cut it for me. Reminds me of Cocoa Wheats. Slight sweet topping, but nothing that goes overboard. This is as simple of an all-day, mildly aromatic tobacco you'll find at this price. Perfectly behaved. I prefer this to SWR Original.

Not a fan of the regular sir Walter. But this is a very pleasant surprise. The pouch note is that of licorice. The flavor is definitely burley and the liquors do come through. Very pleasant smoke will be buying more.

This tobacco is very economically priced, but does not smoke or smell cheap in any way. love carrying this pouch with me when I'm out or at work. The liqueurs give this blend a very pleasant aroma and taste. Definitely worth trying.

For a pouch brand it's pretty good stuff! Smells nice and smokes nice. Good taste too. This one ranks third in my list of favorite pouch brands.
