Bijou 2oz Pipe Tobacco

With the short list of ingredients in this blend one might expect something good but simple… and you wouldn’t be wrong. And yet, there lies a complexity here that was a tad unexpected. The play between the different Virginias is well noted and interwoven with an interesting sweet and incense type complexity from the oriental leaf. This keeps the flavor constantly dancing in and out of different tasting notes on the pallet. The light casing of honey really only deepens what is already happening in this blend. What this gives to the smoker is a deep flavor, sweet and rich, without being an “after dinner” smoke.The room note is incredible, rich and sweet as well, way more than brought out with most Virginia blends. Received some tins dated 060126 planning to age them. It says on the website description, as well as the label, 'pressed and sliced into delicate flakes.' Not that it is a big problem, but I was surprised that the tobacco, if it started out a flake, was completely rubbed-out in the tin, nothing even resembling a flake. Unsure if this a new development with the blend or an anomaly. Definitely will benefit a lot from aging - not sure how the aging process will go since it is not in a compressed flake. I tried it on a whim when I decided to get 2 tins of each blend in the cellar series. So glad I did and found this. It'll be in my regular rotation now. Honestly not sure how much it can improve with age, its that good fresh from a new tin!! It's sweet, smooth and mellow from the opening light with notes of hay, and brown sugar and a light, earthy note in the background. The honey casing adds a sweet touch to it. The Orientals don't show up til half way through and provide a nice spice to complement the sweet notes still there....Read More

Having tried it once, I can't find a more enjoyable tobacco. All other blends simply pale in comparison to Bijou. It's pleasant, sweet, and soft, with depth to its flavor. The aroma is reminiscent of stewed dark fruits and wildflowers. I plan to fill my entire cellar with this tobacco.

This is one of the best pipe tobaccos I've ever smoked. I was a Camel Turkish Royal smoker before I ventured into the hobby of tobacco pipes and pipe tobacco so I have a thing for Oriental pipe tobacco blends. As far as Oriental blends go, this has got to be one of the best. I blended mine with about 10% cigar leaf after smoking about an ounce of the original blend but I think it's best just the way it is....Read More
