About This Pipe Tobacco

An exceptionally smooth blend of Virginias and Burley, and the personal favorite blend of the late Danish pipe maker Peter Heeschen, Briar Fox is pressed into an old fashioned crumble cake, making it easy to prepare for whatever consistency you prefer. Its flavor profile starts with a clean tobacco taste, heightens complexity at mid-bowl and finishes with a spicy character that will make you come back again and again.

Real tobacco flavor

Product: Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox 2oz
If your present favorite is Captain Black or similar you probably won't like the fox. If you like Pegasus or Old Joe blue I bet you'd appreciate this tobacco. If you do give it a try and it's not your thing jar up the whole cake and try it next year. I believe our taste in tobacco is a dynamic experience. I know my preference changed over time. Happy smoking!...Read More
Who Has Dessert All Day?

Product: Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox 2oz
No one eats strawberry shortcake for every meal. For me, tobaccos are the same. I have my favorite foods but don’t eat them all day. I also love a good filet, pastrami with mustard on rye, and French toast for breakfast. Each has its own flavors, textures, and nasal notes enjoyed at different times for various reasons. Briar Fox isn’t my dessert, but it’s a pleasant between-meals coffee break. More temperate than Stokkebye Luxury Flake or Robert McConnell Scottish Flake, it imparts their undaunted sweetness at a milder level with a gentle peppery tone towards the end of the bowl. The burley lends a stealthy bodied undertone that doesn’t blast me with a nicotine bomb. Overall it’s blended well with tastes of a light snack....Read More
Yeah it's good, but...

Product: Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox 2oz
I don't get the hype. I don't even understand the love or hate theory, yeah it's good, but that's it. Would I be upset if this was my desert island? Probably not. Would I buy it again? Maybe.
Not to be Trifled with

I can’t get enough of this stuff. Honestly, after faffing around for ages, I’m glad I finally just went for it. It comes as a vacuum‑sealed 16-oz pressed cake, and it’s got a proper spicy kick to it, so I was convinced there had to be some Oriental leaf in there. Checked the description again… nope. Just burley and red Virginias. Which explains why it hits like a truck. If you’re used to stronger blends, you’ll be fine, but it definitely deserves a bit of respect. And don’t bother crumbling it down to dust before packing. I’ve tried both ways, and it smokes miles better when you just chuck it in a bit chunky. Defo grabbing another sealed bag when this one’s gone....Read More
As good as a natural blend gets

Product: Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox 16oz
Would make a good everyday smoke. It’s very good at being natural and to the point. The burleys and Virginias balance very well. Good earthy body, sweet complexity to top it all off. Not my favorite, as I lean more towards richer blends. I think the hype is overplayed for sure, it’s just a no nonsense codger blend. Worth trying once with managed expectations....Read More
