点火后：味道复杂，烟熏混着木柴。.紧跟着水果的香气并伴有一定的酸甜感。有雪茄的味道，但不是很多。一斗过半后，烟熏味开始加强，果味变得不是很明显。燃烧不能很好的保持。尾段开始出现一些坚果焦糖的香气。雪茄的风味不能很好的持续。
总的来说，这款草基于混合了雪茄叶。那么他就别有一番风味。但我个人感觉，雪茄叶整体含量偏少，不是很明显。不过他的V草的果香味确实让我难以忘怀。如果我选择再次抽吸这款草，也是因为想要再次体验它V草的香气罢了。

s not have. Conversely, Billy Budd does not contain Oriental/Turkish leaf that distinguishes Coyote Classic. Billy Budd has a rounded flavor, no sharp notes. It is Latakia forward, which is perhaps the quality that first invited my comparison with Coyote Classic, as well as the fact that the tobaccos used are premium in every respect, no inferior Burley leaf as a cost saver here. It was a little slow to stay lit, but once it was lit, it stayed lit to the bottom of a large bowl. The nicotine is, I would say, past medium bordering on strong. The Cigar Leaf is evident without giving the impression of a cigar. It is a cool smoke with no chance of a tongue bite. The room note is strong but not offensive, although some who are sensitive may disagree. It burns to a fine gray ash, with no dottle, and no moisture. Read Less

variety of briars and cobbs. No Bueno. The root cause is in the quality of Latakia. Obviously, Latakia has always dominate the blend. However, the Latakia in this tin had a horrible deep tar/Creosote note, as if during the manufacturing process the Turkish leaf was smoked over burning tires. The usual smokey, woody, herbal, rich and musty Latakia was entirely replaced with one note. Creosote. Where in the tins of the past, the Latakia masterfully played the star role leading the varietals in harmony, in this tin it savagely murders them and your taste buds. Hopefully this was just a bad batch and the blend hasn't changed.

9/6/21 update: I've sampled two additional 2oz tins and per my opinion, the blend has definitely changed. Is anyone else noticing this? I've tried all my pipes, then cleaned them and tried again. I’ve tried multiple tins. No change. Its definitely the Latakia. It's not the same star from past years. It now has a much deeper harsh tar/Creosote taste. The delicious nuances of herbal smokey earthy woodiness are gone. The harmony is gone. It totally ruins the blend. Where it used to lead the other varietals masterfully, it now destroys the blend with this terrifying tar note. Possibly the cigar leaf is different too. I'm only getting a handful of puffs during a bowl that resemble the blends original flavor profile. I'll try to call C&D and see if they can provide any insight. ste was pretty much gone and it was only the Cigar leaves and Burley driving the tobacco. I could not detect any sweetness from Virginia. Burned well, did not bite, smoked dry and turned into fine ash. Nicotine levels were on the high side but tolerable. Taste of cigar is evident throughout and to the end of the bowl. My goodness. I’m not a cigar fan and don’t care for the aroma of cigars, but this... this is rich, complex, thick, sweet and savory. When we see the term “chewing smoke”, this mixture provides the basis for it. The cigar leaf is barely noticeable in room note for me, as I stated earlier that I don’t care for that smell, so this is definitely okay in my book.
I’ll definitely be ordering more of this for the cellar. It’s a top 10 for me and among the better English along side Early Morning Pipe, Westminster and Abington.
It’s a very relaxing smoke and especially suited in flavor and nicotine to compliment a hearty steak dinner and provide a sated feeling. Full body, full flavor, medium nicotine. Read Less

pint jar’s worth out every year. It’s mellowed and the Virginias have sweetened but not a lot has changed. It’s a robust, cigar leaf blend and it always has been. It’s smoked where the boys and men part ways. But man is it good! When room notes are for sissies and you’re out to conquer the world one briar-full at a time, be glad you had some of this in your arsenal.

t it is a bit subdued and not a bomber of it. It just stays there and plays along for the duration. Some faint almost orangy sweetness - very mild and kind of flows over the Latakia. A slight tang on the side of tongue for just a moment. Seems like the sweetness might be coming from the maduro leaf, but not positive that is where the attribute is located. There is some of the lingering maduro leaf smoke taste that melds with the Latakia very nicely (diff than Latakia - kind of like a maduro Padron or La Gloria Serie R) at the end of the exhale, which waters the mouth a little with a little tanginess. Good full mouthfeel; really like this one.

eciate what this blend has to offer. It's smoky with a nice full backing. It's got a lot of body and smokes well. I'd say that it's a nice transitional move from Virginias to Latakias or vice versa. Others might recommend Presbyterian or SmokingPipes' (Low Country) own Cooper, but I think this brings it more to the middle. Plus, the price makes this a no brainer. Excellent as bulk. The first time I tried it, it wasn’t like anything I had smoked and my tastebuds were overwhelmed. Approaching it a few months later, after trying some other stout blends, and this made a whole lot more sense.
It’s not a crowd pleaser due to the room note, but it’s quite satisfying to smoke. Like smoking a cigar, you will taste it the next day so be forewarned.
Latakia also doesn’t agree with me as much as it used to, so Billy Budd Blonde is my go to these days.
However, it’s not the same and if Latakia ever decides to agree with me again, I’ll add this back into my rotation. Read Less

appreciate the quality of tobacco when they are not lit. However tobacco with cigar leaf has always intrigued me so I decided to finally give this a try and got 1 ounce. I smoked all of it in a day. It’s excellent it really is very surprised it just adds a nuance that I can’t really explain to the tobacco. Even if you don’t like cigars buy an ounce and give it a try. I’m not sure I’d buy an 8 ounce tin of it or anything but I’m definitely going to buy a 2 ounce tin or two and keep it around for when I’m in the mood. Read Less

e certain blends with Melville references, like Redburn, which I also reviewed. But Billy Budd is an American masterpiece—so the anticipation was building. My first bowl, and all that came after, were gratifying enough to even exceed my expectations.
I haven’t enjoyed an English blend that employed natural, unadulterated cigar leaf. It takes the edge off of the generous proportion of Latakia. The sweetness of the bright Virginias and the nuttiness of the burley help out in this regard as well. What you then experience is the opposite of a harsh Latakia bomb, and the opposite of a weak blend low on flavor. Billy Budd boasts a world of flavor, a brawny room note and a strong yet not vastly muscular nic-punch (like C&D’s Super Balkan). I suspect Billy Budd has edged out Seattle Pipe Club’s Plum Pudding as my favorite English blend, which had previously edged out Peterson’s Nightcap. But what’s even better is that none of the three are limited releases, and I can continue to enjoy all three. I give this 5 stars rightly because it delivers on every taste bud, satisfying the savory, sweet, tangy and salty lovers. And of course you get all the attributes of that ol friend latakia. This blend smokes as an all day-er, slow to medium in bowl time, stays lit, and no dottling around, simply dump your bowl and easy out with the white ash, so satisfyng from false light to dumping, this is my new go to blend. and a good smoker. No ghosts, if there were any. The tin note is odd, a combination of indistinguishable fruit and oily Latakia. I’m sure it will settle down now that’s it’s getting some air. My experience with these 2oz. Tins is that if allowed to sit, closed, the moisture level remains good and the taste and aroma improve. It’s a hodgepodge of broken flake and dark leaf bits, some ribbon too. Loads and Packs easily and after a quick charring, lights and burns well. The Latakia stands out initially but not overwhelmingly. The cigar leaf adds richness and lotsa smoke without any noticeable cigar flavor. It’s a rather dry smoke and seems to enjoy a slow smoking approach. I’ll update this as I go through the tin and it evolves. So far I like it.
Here it is January of 2020 and I’m back into this tin that was opened in October 2019. I smoked a little of it as noted above and then sat it aside, tightly lidded, in its original tin. My experiences with these tins has led me to believe that opening them and letting them sit for a while has a beneficial effect on flavor, moisture and burning quality. This one is no exception. Fundamentally, it allows the tobacco to air out a bit...the tins, once opened aren't airtight but neither are they a ready source of too much fresh air. In the end, the blend is improved by this approach, thus I’m enjoying a late evening bowl full in a Peterson X220. Good stuff. Read Less

tin and is the familiar C&D ribbon cut. Moisture was good, sort of ready, but might benefit from a 10-15 minute dry time. Lighting was easy, but I found I needed a few relights early on. The flavors here are defiantly what I consider Full. My initial thoughts compared this to Dark Brown twists and I felt a nicotine level slightly above my comfort zone. The taste was wonderful. I'm not a cigar smoker, but when cigar leaf is used in pipe blends right, it can be a great condimental leaf. Unfortunately, I have yet to try Billy Budd Blonde which might use cigar leaf as a condiment, but Billy Budd has a strong dose. So much so that the Latakia has to take a back seat. I feel that this tobacco is probably worth more than 3.5 stars to most smokers who would gravitate to Billy Budd, but personally I felt it is in that class of blends that cater to strong blend smokers and cigar fans and not a very enjoyable blend for rookies and most moderate strength smokers. Like my friend, I struggle to find Burley blends and keep trying. C&D makes some that I do enjoy, but Billy Budd is probably not for someone who is Burley shy. There's no escaping the fact that Billy Budd has been a runaway hit fans love. I will have to try Billy Budd Blonde at some point as it may just meet my personal needs of this sort of mixture.
