Delightful kick that needs to breathe

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #2 2oz
This blend took me a bit to "get" right away. Smoking a bowl after opening the tin didn't give me a good experience, but letting it sit for a week or two to breathe really unlocked all the flavors. Robust woody DFK, nutty and lightly sweet with just a hint of spice. This is definitely a blend that will kick your ass if you don't expect it, but it's deeply satisfying. Also it has a very faint cigar aroma, but in a pleasant and not overbearing way. The aroma doesn't particularly linger, nor does it stick around on your palate which makes this an all day smoke if you want it to be. I will likely purchase this again along with going through the other Burley Flake line that C&D offers....Read More
Great series (so far)

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #2 2oz
I’ve been really enjoying #1 and #2 in the burley flake series. Enough so that I’m now placing an order for 3, 4, and 5. I like #2 better so far. But it is tough to say if that will hold true indefinitely. I’ve not had any issues with the strength of either but my nicotine tolerance is pretty high. 2 is a little sweeter. Neither have any bite. To me they are the ideal burley blends that I find myself reaching for most often now that I’ve discovered them. My Peterson 264 seems to bring out the flavor best. C&D has proven to be one of my favorite blenders. Thank you for this series....Read More

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #2 2oz
This simple blend is excellent - good strength and flavor. If you're a Burley fan, you owe it to yourself to try this. It is, in my opinion, the best of the series. It will always be a staple in my rotation along with Pegasus and Briar Fox.
Meh and strong

Update: a year after I bought I thought I'd update the review with a warning not to waste your money here. Unless you're the kind of person that likes for example smoking g&h Irish twist you will find this one a waste of your time and money. The tin note is tasty. It doesn't really translate to the smoke enough. smokes a bit rough. I had it several weeks in a jar and I don't think that took the edge off. Surprisingly large amount of smoke which is kind of fun. I think this is the most billowy blend ive smoked. Interestingly it smoked just okay in my favorite VABur pipe the Clark's favorite. But tasted better in an unfiltered Peterson 124. I guess the narrow conical bowl did better in concentrating flavor. it's definitely strong in nicotine. In terms of flavor I find that to be so personal I read the other reviews here and honestly I think we were smoking two different blends. there are much, much, much better VABUR dfk blends out there. Watch a review by Beans and I think he reviewed a 10 or 11 year old tin and it didn't seem to matter. Still a no-go. I'm pretty stubborn with blends and I'm willing to cellar them up to 10 years just to see if there's some merit to the $14 I spent on the tin... This is the first one that I'm tempted to just throw in the garbage....Read More
A Burley Lover’s Paradise!

Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #2 2oz
If you’re a fan of Burleys and Dark Fired Kentucky, this blend is nothing short of a revelation. It’s a robust, full-flavored experience that lets you sit back, relax, and truly savor the deep, rich character it offers. The mouthfeel is simply beautiful, and the taste is outstanding, complex, bold, and immensely satisfying. The Dark Fired Kentucky is the undeniable star of the show, bringing strong notes of incense, barbecue, and wood that dominate the profile in the best way. The Virginias are present, but not attention seeking, they’re there just to smooth out any rough edges, with no grassy, hay-like, or citrusy qualities. Occasionally, a subtle sweetness peeks through, but it never distracts from the hearty, smoky core. The flavor remains impressively consistent from the first light to the bottom of the bowl. I originally stumbled upon this blend while searching for a replacement for Old Dark Fired and Bold Kentucky. Not only does it meet the mark, but it actually surpasses them in my book. With its strong nicotine kick and well-balanced flavor profile, this is the definitive Burley/Dark Fired blend I’ve been looking for. This discovery has sparked a new enthusiasm in me to explore more from Cornell & Diehl, venturing into other categories with excitement. But when it comes to Burley and Dark Fired, the search is over, I’ve found the best....Read More
