This is a mighty fine English, no preparation required, burns down to a fine white ash, a fine well balanced mixture, flavour stays the same throughout the bowl, no strong finish here, a must try for lovers of old school English blends, in my regular... I don't think I can say anymore than to say that if you like Haunted Bookshop, and you like Latakia, this is a must try. People call it simple, and the recipe may be, but the flavors are very complex and perfectly harmonized. This is a major sleeper.... Read MoreRead Less
This blend is so eye opening, it’s amazing. I’m fairly new to pipes (cigars for years) and I thought I knew what burley was, due to many do the lighter aromatics containing various amounts. That was, until I smoked a bowl of Tuggle Hall. I really ... Read Morehad no idea what an English was supposed to smoke like, but this experience was both unexpected and pleasurable. A couple hours after an evening meal, this blend put a perfect cap to my evening. I can imagine as I experience more blends in the future, that I’ll come back to this one, time and again. Only a half star taken off from the several relights I had to make, but we’ll chalk that one up to inexperience with a cool smoke. Read Less
First of all, this is not 965 nor a 965 match, nor a 965 replacement. Those who claim so may never have had 965. With that said I do feel it stands on its own merits. It’s a pleasant, cool and easy burning smoke. It has a decent kick to it and can be... Read More a tad strong. The thing that makes this unique and less like 965 is the burley content and lack of oriental. The Perique is almost undetectable. Solid smoke. Not an all day for me. I do prefer 965. Read Less
THis blend has a good flavor at first seemed simple the little into the bowl it turns Very nutty and stayed that way on through. This was a satisfying switch up and I plan on keeping a few tins cellared to try again at times every year or so I bet t... Read Morehis blend ages very well. Read Less
I gotta agree with Dave Keny here that this isn’t a 965 clone, not even close and I just finished a tin of 80’s 965 so I’m pretty sure.
A Burley forward English… who’d a thunk it? And it works too. I wasn’t looking for a 965 substitute so I’m a lit... Read Moretle more satisfied with it than Dave was but if you’re a Burley fan and a Latakiafan then you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Read Less
Opinions vary as to how closely Tuggle Hall resembles the classic Dunhill blend, but we can more than suspect the blender's intent. In an earlier day Craig assigned name and number to each blend; Tuggle Hall was, of course, #965.
I picked this up based on reviews saying it resembled 965. I do not believe this shares much with the classic and seeing the components should give away why. This is heavy in Burley and light/mudium in Latakia which is why I say its more of an Englis... Read Moreh in the American sense. It isn't bad, but does have a roughness and pepperiness from the perique that isn't what I was looking for in a 965 style blend. Read Less
My journey with this blend has been interesting. Originally purchased to get a sense of Latakia forward flavor without any orientals, I was initially pleased, but underwhelmed. In cooler (or cold) weather, the Latakia is definitely the chief flavor, ... Read Moreand it's balanced nicely in spite of the strength. In warmer weather, it develops a subtle sweetness that is wonderful. I don't smoke this in hot weather, and I tend to smoke outdoors, so my window of opportunity is relatively smaller with this blend. All that said, it has become my go to Latakia blend. I have come to love it's shifting nature, and it has well-earned a spot in my rotation. Read Less
I have tried this three times now. I am cellaring it for a month. At this time, the burley is too strong in the mixture to enjoy. I think if it mellows, I could taste the perique and latakia better. At present, those appear in whispers or hints to te... Read Morease me of what "could be". I love the fine ribbon cut of this blend. The tin note is pleasant, which is difficult with latakia and perique, but I am hoping the cellar time will tell the tale. Read Less
