Drucquer & Sons: Blairgowrie 100g Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-756-0007

Founded in 1841, Drucquer & Sons was a famed London tobacco shop that relocated to Berkeley, California, in 1928. The shop was more than just a tobacconist though; it was a community. It was where some of the greatest tobacco-blenders in recent memory — like Carl Ehwa of McClelland and Gregory Pease of G.L. Pease — first plunged their hands into fragrant tobacco. The historic shop may be gone, but its rich history and brand of pipe tobaccos continues, reformulated from their original recipes by Gregory Pease (and made by Cornell & Diehl) for the modern smoker.

Created in the classic Scottish blending style and meaning "Plain of Gowrie" in Gaelic — a burgh near Perth, Scotland — Blairgowrie is a robust blend of matured and aged Virginia leaf, fine Orientals, Cypriot Latakia, and Perique. The tobaccos are pressed and aged before being sliced and fully rubbed out for a rich smoking experience. Blairgowrie is rich and full-bodied, providing a balanced English blend that appeals even to those who don't typically prefer mixtures with Latakia.

Product: Drucquer & Sons Blairgowrie 100g
Tried it in 2021, wasn't a huge fan. It was okay then, but not great. I prefer big balkans and straight Englishes, not so keen on Scottish style blends with Perique. I vacuum sealed the tin I had opened, let it sit for two and a half years. From what I remember of it in 2021, it seems perhaps a bit more interesting today. Still not a favorite but I'll try to finish the tin....Read More

My favorites change with the seasons, mood, what I’m drinking, but Blairgowrie is top tier. My only wish is for smaller volumes of to sample the full D&S lineup.
Well blended

This one could be somebody's favorite. In terms of how well it's Blended I'd say craftsmanship is 5 out of 5 stars. I only gave it four and a half because it's not my preferred style of blend. Could almost be considered a va/per based on flavor. Dominantly favors the grassy notes of a Virginia, while the perique and latakia play supporting roles fairly even handedly but neither are flavor dominant. Always present but enjoyably mild. I personally prefer my English and balkans to be more Oriental forward, but it's definitely the least dominant part of this blend. Still I think it is incredibly well crafted...Read More

This is an excellent smoke. I don't smoke blends with Latakia often, primarily because it usually overtakes all other components of the blend. This is not the case here, as the Latakia hangs out in the back from start to finish very consistently. The Virgina really shines in this blend for me, and it is high quality leaf. Nice sweet flavour, and dances just right with the Latakia. Visually a beautiful leaf and a very interesting cut, not quite rubbed not quite a flake. I don't rub it out anymore then it is and that smokes great for me. My favorite thing about this blend is it's smoothness. You can puff it like a locomotive and it won't bite at all. Moisture is perfect out of the tin. Smokes the best out of my old beat up grabow....Read More

Product: Drucquer & Sons Blairgowrie 100g
I picked this one up on a whim. 100% good call. I smoked this blend new out of the tin, in my trusty ol' meerschaum. I found this blend to be buttery smooth, light on the campfire, and maybe the thinnest hint of maple sweet. Good thick velvety smoke for the mouth feel. I enjoy my English tobaccos completely, but this Scottish will likely be in rotation from here forward. Overall I think Mr. G.L. Pease blended up a treat here!...Read More

This blend will bring a lot of folks to pipe enjoyment.
Quality is something that can not be faked or covered over and this is a high quality blend from a master blender wishing to honor his memories with this traditional blend.
Superb!
recommend to all Enthusiasts and all newcomers. This i
s a blend you will judge other blends against for a lifetime.
edit:
after some more bowls I up the rating to an unheard of 6/5.
my vintage grp2 hardcastle billiard and this blend were made for each other.
power level in a larger bowl may be higher but in the right pipe I find the end of the bowl and my satisfaction to always be perfectly balanced.
I also find no rough edges I need to micro blend away which makes this one of the singular blends I enjoy with no additions.
I hope Mr. Pease offers this blend for as long as I want to fill a bowl with it!

Really really good

Product: Drucquer & Sons Blairgowrie 100g
The first thing you'll notice is the cut. It's a rubbed-out flake and that means 1) its flavor is consistent, bowl to bowl, and 2) you can pinch and pack it without having to rub it out at all. The next thing you notice is the tin note, rich and full but with a bit of molasses-type sweetness to it. Not overpowering, just a good, manly aroma. After you pack and light you'll notice this lights pretty easily and it burns very well. I typically finish a bowl in 30 minutes and with Blairgowrie I might re-light it once or twice. That's because the moisture level is right and the tobacco packs very well. The flavor is a mixture of that molasses sweetness, a bit of smoky undertone, and really nice Virginia hay. Love this stuff....Read More

Product: Drucquer & Sons Blairgowrie 100g
Tin note of sweet vegetation, dried fruit and spices. Tobacco is a reddish-brown broken flake. Moisture content is great. Larger pieces may need to be rubbed out. Burns slow with few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to full and consistent, with notes of toast, wood, spices, leather, floral, savory sweet, mild Rasins, fermented sour, musty earth, orange peel/zest, herbal hay, moderately spicy, citrus, smoky, lemon grassy, a tangy stewed fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Oriental/Turkish and Perique supporting. Latakia is bringing up the rear. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More
