About This Pipe Tobacco
One of McConnell's original blends dating back to 1848, Scottish Blend is a classic Scottish mixture, combining Bright Virginias and Black Cavendish with a touch of Latakia, Orientals, and Perique. While Scottish and English blends both contain Latakia, a Scottish blend traditionally prioritizes Virginias above the Latakia and Orientals for a balanced flavor profile rich in complexity and nuance.

Coming from a newbie, this is a great intro to "English" style for new smokers.

h in my rotation. Not too big on burleys, they tend to upset my mouth. So I'd like to think I have a well-rounded view, though still fairly new to the hobby.
Until now, I had not dared branch out to any English style, or anything with Latakia really, because of the presumed complexity and sometimes off-putting room note those tobaccos are known for.
A few weeks ago I decided to ease into that world with McConnells Scottish Blend. And wow, this stuff is awesome!
The tin note is smoky campfire and barbecue sauce for me. Some sour tang from the Va, and a little funkiness that was hard to place... Leather?
To compare using whisky, this would be Laphroaig vs a Balvenie. I'm usually not a fan of smoky, peaty whisky, but I ventured forth undeterred...
I loaded it up straight from the tin, rather lightly, and was met with some glorious flavors and wonderful smoke. The Virginia was definitely front and center from the beginning, and the Latakia nestled right in behind it. The campfire note remains, but not so much as to choke you with that leathery, smoky flavor. The cavendish helps smooth everything out. I don't get much Perique in this blend until about halfway through the bowl about the same time the cavendish fades out.
My wife absolutely hates it... from the tin, smoke in the air, everything. But after 5-6 bowls of this, it's quickly become one of my favorites that I gladly smoke outdoors.
If you're fairly new to pipe smoking and, like me, are curious what all the fuss about "English style" is, my novice opinion is this would be a great introduction to those blends.
My only problem, besides ordering more of this to smoke/cellar, would be what blends to try next.
Easily 4 stars, could be a 5 if I spend a bit more time with it....Read More

lives. Well, I found the same telltale sign with this tobacco. It left , not a burning, but a good sensation/taste on the back sides of my tongue. A very good one. Flavor. And as it states, Scottish tobacco emphasizes more on the Virginia’s rather than Latakia & Orientals, which to me is great. I’m not a big fan of Latakia or Orientals, especially Latakia. To me, this one is just right. There is only a slight hint of it, very slight. As a matter of fact, I had to look up the ingredients for this blend to see if there was any Latakia in it at all. That’s the way I like it, just a very slight hint of it. It taste like good, fine tobacco. There is “the right time & the right place” for everything. I can see me smoking this tobacco in an OoPaul or a calabash shape pipe while watching some Celtic Highland Game on a chilly but bright sunny Autumn day. I like this one a lot. It’s like the Woodstock of concerts, the Elvis of entertainers, the Pink Floyd “Dark Side of The Moon” of albums, the Monaco of Grand Prix racing, the Basil Rathbone & Nigel Bruce of Sherlock Holmes, the Peterson 4AB of pipes, the fine wine of tobaccos, the extra virgin variety of olive oils! To me, for my own personal taste, this is the quintessential tobacco mix/blend in the “English” family of tobaccos. Great Scot, they nailed this one! Pure and simple....Read More

A complex and flavorful tobacco in the English style. My tin is over 1 year old and smooth as silk. The balance and flavors are spot on and cool smoking. Love this in my meerschaum and briars.
One of the best

Very pleasant smoke of complex and elegant tobacco, with round flavors, and harmonious notes of Latakia. The moisture of the mixture is correct and very well balanced. You can obtain a nice slow smoke without any bite at all.
Waiting for new tins available!
