This ribbon Virginia is a bone dry nice amalgamation of Virginia, Perique and Burley.Bag aroma was hay, cardboard, cotton candy , rasin and cinnamon (the spice, not the dancer).

I sampled three bowls with a MM Missouri Pride.

Disclosure: I have had this before. I recall buying one tin, and when it was gone I did not replace it.

I’ll apologize up front , reminding the reader that my score is based upon my willingness to re-order / cellar. The blend of I were just rating it in its face would likely score 1 point higher. Rules is rules.

This is a decent VaBurPer. Actually the first bowl was more BurVaPer - somehow fate dealt me a really burley rich initial bowl. Which was fine - it was a good foundation for the Virgina and Perique to perform on. Subsequent bowls however had a much more present VaPer quality. I could totally see someone having this as thier all day blend.

I could also see this being sold , unchanged, under the banner of being a burley blend and folks being none the wiser, buying both.

I makes a nice white smoke, which is a bit cool for a Virgina. Maybe that’s the burleys role - taming the beast a bit. Know what I’d like here ? A smidgen of DFK. Oh baby.

It’s good. I’ll always be happy with hay and spice and smoke that is nice.

My rating : 4 - this is good. I’ll probably end up having an order one day and toss a half pound in the cart

Very temperamental blend

I particularly like this tobacco, has arguably the right amount of perique for someone not wanting to just get perique bombed per se. However, I find this tin note VERY cheesy! I'm very surprised that no one (that I can see) has made mention of it. ?? Even without lighting, the tin note becomes the room note... Powerful in that regard. This tobacco is heavy with aged cheese with a prominent note of fermented fruit as well. My tin came with heavy moisture, but dried quickly for an enjoyable smoke. Delicious blend of tobacco. I could barely taste the burley, which was fine with me as I’m not a big fan of Burley. I love this Three Friars. It’s delicious! I’ll be ordering more if this soon!

This is a tobacco to start a new day with. Goes great with any coffee you choose. Not sure about the all day smoke, with so many other tobacco products out there, this blend could become a little boring. I do smoke it 2 times a day morning and evening coffee times.

It's not bad, but I had high hopes for this. It's worth a try, but take it slow, this will bite.

Update: This wasn't coming into its own, so I blended it 50/50 with C&D Bright Virginia for a nice Va with a bit of burley body and pleasant trace of sweetness from the subtle casing. ----------- I'll come back to this, because 3F seems like a blend that could grow on you. The perique and burley are in wonderful balance with each other, though overall I might like more Virginia. Still, this is nice as a straightforward, naturally presented burley blend, and is something I will go to before, say, Haunted Bookshop (I'm not that much of a burley fanatic.) Variety is a good thing, and while I'm not ready to rave about it, Three Friars deserves a few revisits before final judgement....Read More

It is very unique, and enjoyable spring smoke, however I would have liked the va to be a bit more forward. Its definitely worth a try for anyone who is looking for a good spring morning smoke.

I finally got this blend to work in a narrow old basket pipe I've had for years. There is a lot to like here when it works, but this will never be a favorite of mine.

Not a bad smoke by any means, just not a favorite for me. It's pleasantly nutty, but the Perique was a little forward for my taste. Overall, not bad, but not all that exciting either.
