Drucquer & Sons: Trafalgar 100g Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-756-0011

Founded in 1841, Drucquer & Sons was a famed London tobacco shop that relocated to Berkeley, California, in 1928. The shop was more than just a tobacconist though; it was a community. It was where some of the greatest tobacco-blenders in recent memory — like Charl Ehwa of McClelland and Gregory Pease of G.L. Pease — first plunged their hands into fragrant tobacco. The historic shop may be gone, but its rich history and brand of pipe tobaccos continues, reformulated from their original recipes by Gregory Pease (and made by Cornell & Diehl) for the modern smoker.

A classic English mixture, Trafalgar sets smooth, exotically spicy Turkish tobaccos in perfect balance with a variety of fine Bright and Red Virginias, Perique, and just enough Latakia for a subtle smokiness. The result is a rich, elegant pipe tobacco with lots of character and enough complexity to keep smokers engaged throughout the bowl, and throughout the day.

Drucquer tins were never vacuum packed.

Product: Drucquer & Sons Trafalgar 100g
Alan S, I'm sorry if you don't find enough latakia presence in this one. There's actually quite a bit in the blend, but the relatively low percentage of oriental leaf can sometimes make it seem like there's less latakia than there is. These two tobaccos work in harmony to sort of amplify each other. Levant might be more to your liking, as it contains both tobaccos in higher percentage. Trafalgar is one of my top faves of the range. It's got a wonderful balance, is complex enough to hold my interest throughout the bowl, and gentle enough that I don't get overwhelmed by "latakia tongue" after smoking even a fairly large bowl. As far as the tins are concerned, Drucquer tins were never vacuum packed. Neither were Rattrays, the original Sobranies, or many other old blends. I learned to really appreciate the way the tobaccos age when packaged this way, and made the decision early on to carry that tradition forward both with my own brand, and with these....Read More

A very well balanced classic English. If you favor English blends it is definitely worth a try. I will definitely be trying the other Drucquer & Sons blends.
A new favorite English Mixture

Another wonderful English blend from Greg Pease. A nice underlying spice from the oriental tobaccos that is backed up by the Virginias. All this sweet and spicy enhanced by the Perique and Latakia. Nice ribbon cut that packs and smokes well. One of new favorites.

Fairly Traditional English

Product: Drucquer & Sons Trafalgar 100g
A traditional approach to a classic English with the exception of the addition of a bit of Perique--not much, but rather uncommon in a blend that is not a Scottish. I would put the Virginias in the first position with the Orientals (non-Latakia) just behind. The Latakia is what I would consider to be enough, but somewhat restrained. The Perique is barely there. Trafalgar is about an overall medium in all respects--perhaps a tad less. It's a solid and predictable blend that should have a broad appeal because of its moderate approach. I do enjoy it from time-to-time--it's interesting, but not fascinating. I think this might be considered a day-to-day standard smoke....Read More
An Excellent English

Product: Drucquer & Sons Trafalgar 200g
A finely balance English tobacco. The tin note represents that of a fine English blend, the flavor is outstanding. Just the right balance of Latkakia and Perique. Trafalgar is a good introduction to the English styles. A great blend for my Barling Trafalgar pipes with the same name.
Bright, Homey and Balanced

Wow, what a blend, in honour of my "Loyalist" mindset surrounding the Monarchy and UK (I'm Canadian) I bought this blend along with a Barling, Trafalgar, Fossil, 1818. The combination I find pays an excellent Homage to Admiral Nelsons death as he heard the news of his decisive victory over the French. This Blend is bright and optimistic colour, that is match made to the exterior packaging. I have made mind that every time I begin to pack my pipe it seems instinctual to take notice of the brilliant aroma and feeling the feeling of warmth that emanates from the tin. Flavourful with a balance of light spice and subtle sweetness that accompanies the light Virginia's and Perique, The Latakia is perfectly balanced for my palette. The smoke is creamy and thick but doesn’t taste heavy, the flavour seems dull around the mid bowl as the room note peaks which is good to promote a break in thinking to converse with those near me, afterwards I find it hints more at the spicy flavouring from the perique towards the final third of my bowl. This Blend is a standard daily choice for me now. After 7ish bowls over a week and the slow breaking in of the new pipe accompanying it I can say that this is an excellent blend and worthy a dedicated pipe. I look forward to reviewing Blairgowrie soon.

Cheers to my Fellow man

Product: Drucquer & Sons Trafalgar 100g
Tin note of pungent, mildly smoky and sour fruity wine. Tobacco is a Ribbon cut of brown black and tan. Moisture content is great. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium to strong and mostly consistent, with notes of floral, toast, wood, spices, mildly smoky, tangy, savory, Rasin, plum, leather, dry rich earth, musty sour vegetation, grass/hay, citrus, bitter, herbal, zesty, a dark semi-sweet fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Oriental/Turkish, Latakia and Perique supporting. Room note is tolerable, and aftertaste is great....Read More
Really nice English mixture
December 19, 2022
Product: Drucquer & Sons Trafalgar 100g
I have tried a trio of Drucquer offerings -- Trafalgar, Blairgowrie, and Levant Mixture. I may try a couple more, as these are uniformly excellent. Of Trafalgar, I'd say this is the more balanced of the three, with a good but not overpowering dose of Vitamin L balanced by Virginias and Turkish tobacco. I love the tin note, which is rich and a bit spicy. The smoke itself lights nicely and burns clean. It does not bite, of course, except if you really push it. If you don't, you'll be rewarded with a really nice middle-English that I'd compare to GL Pease's Westminster, or maybe Piccadilly. I'll try it again at some point as it is really nice. But, honestly, it sits in competition with a LOT of other blends boasting a similar ingredient mix and taste profile. English mixture smokers will love it....Read More

This is without a doubt one of the best English blends I've had the pleasure of smoking... Deliciously floral and deep, with just the right amount of smoky sweetness to round things out. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
