Ages to perfection

I was lucky enough to be able to purchase a tin of Montgomery from 2006 a few months ago for a small premium. It was worth it. If you love Virginia flavor and you enjoy dark fired Kentucky then it's hard to go wrong here. With 11 years of age, the... Read More
flavors and aromas of the VA and DF are married to perfection. From first light, you're instantly rewarded with sweet, smoky, and delicious special dark fired and a whole spectrum of Virginia flavors that starts on the lighter side. The basic flavor profile outlined above remains throughout the rest of the bowl, only deepening and intensifying the further you go. As a result, this singular blend of Virginia and dark fired consistently satisfies, and only gets better and better with every relight (exceptional flavor for those who employ DGT) . I find Montgomery to be an all day smoke that is mild in body, but not too mild. Mild in nicotine, but enough to satisfy. Mild to mild-medium in flavor, but never losing interest and always growing in flavor. Id really like to try this one fresh and cellar at least a pound. GL Pease strikes again...
On a side note it would really be nice to have access to seven different grades of Virginia, or just the breadth or components available to blenders. There are more blending components avaliable than ever from what I read, but in my humble opinion there's still room for more. It's especially a shame that many small leaf varietals are so rare, even for master blenders. Read Less
Wanting more DFK

The Virginia's really shine and the DFK takes a back seat, but it left me wanting a bit more of it. It’s relatively young and a bit nippy however, the red Virginia’s will mellow with time. Also, the ancient special process in the tin description left... Read More

I’ve tried a lot of GLP’s blends but somehow overlooked this one. I decided to try it when my ulcer sent me looking for milder blends, and this fit the bill. Yes, it’s mild, but not tasteless by any means. There’s that sweetness yhat marks Virginia... Read More
s, honey like with a touch of fruit. According to its billing, there is no perique ( unusual for a Pease blend) but there is still a bit of spiciness and a low pitched body to the flavor. This could be an all day smoke. Burns to a soft ash with few relights. No complaint here. Read Less

This is a mild, pleasant tobacco. Out of the tin, it has a mixture of tangy and citrusy smell. No tongue bite if you know how to smoke it with a slow pace. I enjoy it.

Grassy, sweet and sour with a touch of spice and smoke

I had been smoking a lot of Samuel Gawith's Golden Glow, but since it's near impossible to get now I starting looking for a substitute. This is it. Nice ribbon cut, same grassy sweet and sour Virginias but with the added occasional smoky spiciness ... Read More
of the the dark fired. Very easy to pack, no need to dry, and burns clean. Sorry Sam - the addition of the dark fired makes me like this even more than GG. The flavor subtly changes through the bowl - there's not much dark fired so when it hits you get a burst of spice and smoke, especially on the retrohale. Very nice - can't wait to get more to age - I suspect it will be a full 5 stars after a few years. Read Less

I haven't met a DFK/Virginia blend I didn't like. This one is at the top of that list for me. Smoked the entire 2oz can in less than 3 weeks. Now I need to try the rest of the Fog City Selection.
Nice Virginia blend

The "wrinkle" here is the addition of the dark-fired Kentucky to Greg Pease's patented delicious Virginias. And it's a good addition, opening up some complexity and depth. This one, smoked fresh, burns nicely and has a toasted flavor that I... Read More

I am an amateur and smoke mixtures from the Virginia family with Dark Fired Kentucky, but Montgomery seemed weak to me and almost doesn't feel Kentucky. It is likely that I will not return to this tobacco mixture in the future.

Tin aroma is tart and tangy with hints of plum. Flavor profile is slightly sweet tobacco with hints of spice and plum with a tangy mouth feel. Flavor gets better as the bowl progresses. A solid Virginia Blend.

I spend a lot of time reading descriptions and reviews before buying a new blend. Sometimes they are helpful, and others not.

tness. This is a hearty smoke, and just sweet enough. The aroma, both in the tin and in the room make me reminiscent of the holidays...cakes and pies baking in the kitchen. Without being able to put my finger on it exactly, I detect a hint of fruitcake spice. And by hint I mean that I'll keep puffing, tasting and sniffing an entire bowl and never really be able to put my finger on it, but it's very pleasing. Read Less
