About This Pipe Tobacco

For Pease's Jackknife Plug, dark-fired Kentucky Leaf and ripe red Virginia tobaccos, with their deep, earthy flavors, are layered on a central core of golden flue-cured for a hint of bright sweetness, then pressed and matured in cakes, and finally cut into 2oz blocks. Slice it thick and rub it out for a ribbon cut, thin for a shag, or chop it into cubes. The choice is yours.

One of those blends that makes you stop whatever you’re doing and say “damn” every minute or so. The flavors of this blend are married together beautifully. The bounce around between bright leaf, red virginia, and the spontaneous wiffs of dark-fired are quite enjoyable. From hay/grassy bright notes to that nice red virginia breadiness/earthiness with a sporadic whisp of savory smoked meats from the dark fired is so darn good. The dark-fired in this can be described as nothing other than “savory.” My only complaint is it’s not as strong as i had assumed but gosh darn it is good man. This blend is about to send me down a dark-fired kentucky rabbit hole. So good. 5 stars. You need to try this....Read More

New tin with only 4 months on it, freshly popped, sliced, fully rubbed and aired out for 15 minutes. Trad 3 layer pack in a Ser Jacopo Rhodesian. Divinely smooth, rich and savory from top to bottom with thick and enticing wisps of smoke that invites one to engage olfactorily. A big motivation to learn the retrohale. Two more tins in the basket to put some aging on. Update: Retrohale mastered. It's interesting the flavor it brings out, but snorking is more effective, honestly. Well, I definitely tried this at the wrong time of day. This for sure is a smoke to take out to the pub, or to be enjoyed at an evening BBQ. I imagine a nice strong ale would pair well with this. Lots of dark flavours. I occasionally got a whiff of chargrilled smoked meats. Certainly a winner in my books. It loses half a star just becuase it wasn't as strong as I was expecting....Read More

This plug is on the far opposite end of the spectrum from aromatics. Quite savory with no frills. Tin note has a very smoky BBQ sauce presence. Once in the bowl it morphs into fragrant sweetness. Very pleasant smoke and great intro to DFK.
