A Good Blend Without Sweetness
July 20, 2026
Product: G. L. Pease Abingdon 2oz
Very surprised with this one. The aroma off the tin is a great example of tobacco without all the coverings, toppings, and such. Inhaling the aroma off a fresh tin is delightful. It was reminding me of Chelsea Morning without the sweetness and much drier on the mouth and tin. It packs easily without having to give it much tampering and lights right up without fuss. The latakia is not overpowering imo. Virginia pops it's head in right when you want some and the Oriental brings in the much desired spice. The bold of the blend is spot on, it is a refined and mature smoke that gives me thoughts of a tobacco at its desired maturity. It's a faithful blend when you want to smoke without all the fuss. It burns down to the bottom of the bowl without issue. If you like bold mature tasting tobacco without covers, this is a really good one....Read More

Product: G. L. Pease Abingdon 2oz
Perfect balance of quality Latakia, Virginia and Orientals.
The Composition is so smooth, delicate, deep, 3D and well blended that I’m not even trying isolating its parts when I smoke it.. I enjoy it as a single entity.
Rare and excellent Balkan magic.
Very easy, well balanced and consistent smoke.

What a great easy smoke:
Easy to pack.
Easy to lit.
Easy to keep lit.
Easy to taste, there is not much depth (for me) and its a plus for this tobacco.
Doesn't bite

Just consistent, smooth experience.

Many tobaccos provided higher peak smoking experiences but none were so
comfortable and easy to smoke.

10/10 in its own category.

Product: G. L. Pease Abingdon 2oz
I’m a newbie in the pipe world, but I’ve been studying a lot. This is my first Balkan. The smoke is rather dry, but the flavor is fantastic. I get strong Oriental notes with a pine-like character, and the Latakia is not overwhelming at all. In fact, the Virginia is quite noticeable, and about halfway through the tin you can really taste the sweetness. I should mention that the tin I bought was aged, and the bottom was slightly bulged. However, when smoked with a Peterson P-Lip, the smoke becomes almost too dry and tends to bite the palate. I really enjoyed this tobacco, but I’m curious: would the experience have been the same with a fresh tin?...Read More
G. L. Pease Abingdon: A Good Low Nicotine Tobacco
October 19, 2025
Product: G. L. Pease Abingdon 2oz
For those of us with an aversion to nicotine, finding a tobacco that both tastes good and does not have the negative effects of too much nicotine can be a difficult search. Frog Morton original and On the Town had been my go to tobaccos, but since McClelland went out of business this is no longer an option. Another good option was Hearth & Home Daybreak, but it was discontinued. I have some tins of FM stockpiled but I know they won’t last forever, so I’ve been searching for something to replace it. I tried some of Peterson’s English mixtures, but they all caused me the telltale signs of too much nicotine: mild nausea and dizziness and elevated heartrate. I came across the G.L. Pease English mixtures and tried several of them when they were on sale. Many of them seem quite low in nicotine and do not have the negative effects of nausea and dizziness I get with most tobaccos.

Although Charing Cross is my personal favorite, Abingdon is also a very good low nicotine blend. It is quite a bit stronger flavor, more like what I consider a Balkan blend to be. It does not seem to me to have toppings or other flavorings added, but just the flavors from the oriental and latakia tobaccos. I find that Abingdon is similar in flavor to Frog Morton. Not identical to FM but it reminds me of it. If you’re searching for a low nicotine English or Balkan tobacco blend with a moderately strong flavor I highly recommend you give Abingdon a try.
