About This Pipe Tobacco

For Pease's Jackknife Plug, dark-fired Kentucky Leaf and ripe red Virginia tobaccos, with their deep, earthy flavors, are layered on a central core of golden flue-cured for a hint of bright sweetness, then pressed and matured in cakes, and finally cut into 2oz blocks. Slice it thick and rub it out for a ribbon cut, thin for a shag, or chop it into cubes. The choice is yours.

More Ember Than Smoke: First Impressions of JackKnife Plug

My first bowl of JackKnife Plug taught me more about Dark-Fired Kentucky than any description I've read. The bowl began with leather, a dark fig sweetness, and a surprisingly creamy smoke texture. By the second half the sweetness had faded and the Kentucky stepped forward with an intensely savory character: dry oak, leather, and the clean ash of a well-burned fire. At times it reminded me of sipping a rich Long Black beside a fire pit. The blend finished cool, satisfying, and burned to a fine silver-gray ash. My biggest surprise was that Kentucky struck me as less smoky than roasted—more ember than smoke. If Latakia evokes smoke, JackKnife Plug evokes the fire itself after the flames have settled into glowing embers. I suspect if I had let this sit unopened for a long while, I would have given it a higher rating....Read More

Well, I definitely tried this at the wrong time of day. This for sure is a smoke to take out to the pub, or to be enjoyed at an evening BBQ. I imagine a nice strong ale would pair well with this. Lots of dark flavours. I occasionally got a whiff of chargrilled smoked meats. Certainly a winner in my books. It loses half a star just becuase it wasn't as strong as I was expecting....Read More

This tobacco is an absolute delight if you enjoy a savory no frills smoke. Tin note is tangy ketchup. The burn is cool and dense. It’s a textbook DFK offering. I've only been smoking a pipe for about a year now but I've been an avid cigar smoker for many years. I've been smoking mainly English blends I realy like the Latakia. I recently decide to try Burley so I got Jack Knife Plug. It has quickly become one of my favorites. In fact Im smoking it daily mainly at night as my last pipe due to the strong nicotine kick which I enjoy. It's very earthy slightly bitter with notes of fig. The Kentucky Fire Cured give a great spice. The retrohale is very pleasant and not overwhelming. I definitely suggest it for old cigar smokers....Read More

I love most blends with dark fired leaf but JackKnife is in the top 3 for me. I first tried it after War Horse was discontinued and found that it wasn't a replacement for WHB but it is a great blend in it's own right.
