eady Rubbed Cut. I like this cut. I do not rub it out, I cram it into my pipe straight out of the tin for best results.
There is this never ending controversy whether or not this mixture contains Perique. My tin description, which is rather long compared to others, does not mention Perique. Since original Saint-James-Parish-Perique is a quite expensive and exclusive tobacco, I think the producer would be delighted to mention it on the tin description, if there was any. The other side of the story is, on the internet homepage of (former Lane Ltd., now STG) Scandinavian Tobacco Group of USA www.stglanepipe.com they mention, that there is “a touch of Perique” in this blend.
GOLDEN SLICED is what I call a typical Danish Mixture, which by definition is mellow, pure natural tobacco with a gentle, subtle fruit (or liquor) casing. This mixture develops a remarkable fan of delicate aromas, mainly those known of Virginia, citrus fruits and some hidden fruit-flavours commonly attributed to Perique. I’d say this blend is young, bright, fresh, crisp; an ideal hot weather smoke. There is a reserved hint of sweetness in this blend. I am not a Danish, even less an Aromatic smoker, but I somewhat like GOLDEN SLICED, because all casing has been done unobtrusively, with great prudence and skill. Read Less

ked in a square tin. The 100g flakes end up being twice as long, bent and jammed into the standard circular tin. This puts people off, but it's great stuff however it's packaged. I only slightly prefer the 50g flake as it dries out a little quicker and is easier to eyeball for my pipes. Not really a perique bomb, but there is a whiff for sure. Chimney puffers will be put off by this blend as, with other Vas, one should puff as slowly as possible. I adore this flake in a Peterson system. Smokes just right! Also (though I usually ignore the price when reviewing a fine tobacco) the price is certainly right. Read Less

Just a slight tongue tingle from the perique. Recommend aging for best potential. Also not as grassy now and has gained alot of depth and sweetness toward the bottom of the bowl. Will pick up more to age in a jar. Read Less

iven out of Orlik through heavy case and topping. It's a decidedly artificial flavor through and through. Light, no nicotine, sugary on the tongue, burns hot... it's good for those that don't like the taste of tobacco. In all seriousness however, it's bad, like really bad. This is about as vanilla as a VA can get. Classic??? oh no, this is far from the classic Orlik of old. If you don't like tobacco and are looking for something that will keep the tobacco flavor out of your pipe, try this. But then why not just pop a sucker in your mouth and forget the whole pipe thing? Orlik is the 'tobacco' for the purple haired, skinny jeans crowd who don't know which bathroom to use and can't decide which of the 82,000 genders they belong to. Read Less

y I came to this late, and was able to enjoy a tin aged for about three years. Three more years and surely three times three would have enhanced it further. A great flake to break the intensity of many consecutive bowls of dark-fired Kentucky, robust burley or BurVa blends, or my more stout English blends. Like many, the Perique in this flake goes unnoticed on my tongue. Interestingly, I can puff this one quite fast and not suffer a bite. Just as much, I appreciate the honeyed and slightly orange-citrus flavor without feeling I’m tasting something artificial or chemical. Simple but superior. 4.5 stars. Read Less

这是我抽的第一款非调味草，那时不懂怎么装填切片烟，也抽不懂原味草，直接扔了一包……后来抽L为主，无意间又找出一罐试试。很平和，没有L的激情，但是不缺中正的基调和芬芳的香气。徐徐图之，缓缓嗅之，静静得之。燃烧不错，斗温略高，容易产生顶胀感。红法的花果香，和并列的日耳曼7的坚果巧克力，游艇的尼古丁，是我觉得最适口的3种V了。

不过觉得疫情以来的品控在下降，香气不似以往浓郁，同时烟丝里面的梗略多。
不过对于新手老手都是必备口粮草！

这个VP草绝对是相当不错的，感觉非常平衡，即使刚打开几天，抽起来也已经很舒服，而且越往后抽感觉越好。我真的不明白为什么有人会打那么低的分数，就算有人不那么满意，也不至于到四分以下。喜欢VP草的人士如果不试试红法，应该是一种遗憾。那种味道正是烟草可以达到的近乎完美的输出。求仁得仁，这正是我们喜欢烟斗的原因。

ic is mild. No flavoring is listed though there is sweet citrus detected. The sweet fizzles out first around the first quarter. The Citrus drops into the background where it faintly remains. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of sweet citrus, toasted bread, wood, floral, spices, leather, lemon grass, rich earth, mild plum, dry hay, orange peel/zest, sour fermented vegetation, mildly savory, a stewed tangy fruit background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Flavoring supporting. Perique supports somewhere up wind. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is great. Read Less

bet my Rolex that Tom Eltang danish pipe master smokes this classic wonderful flake- it’s weird 2oz tin normal flakes- but I received my two 3.5ozs tins-& holy moly- I pulled out 4 flakes that were 12inchs long, I’m not kidding, has anyone else experienced this? I’m sure. Very unique flake for 3.5oz tin. I get the smell of apricot, grassy hay Virginia, orange & apple, when I stuck my nose in the tin & what a lovely wonder aroma of grassy hay & apricot,orange,& apple goodness, I lit it up & tasted the suddle, sweet Virginia grassy hay,& I can’t taste the yummy wonderful taste of apricot & citrus, orange zest , tangy apple, ever so slightly picking it up off & on, I mostly get Virginia sweetness & apricot- all & all a excellent 5 star pipe tobacco. prefer to fold and stuff, though a good rub is also quite pleasant in the bowl if packed properly.
I tend to keep it burning on the warmer side as it lends to opening up the essences in the mix. Hay, honey, and sometimes a slight twang from the perique that accents the sweetness of the Virginia in a delicious way.

l bowls it really grew on me. I started to appreciate the unobtrusive, subtle and clean quality of this tobacco, and it's smoothness. It is a very smooth tobacco. In terms of flavor it has a pleasant and subtle plum flavor which does match with it's smell. It's my first flake style tin but it has worked very well for me and packs and smokes nicely. ew candy I used to get from the Asia Market with white rabbits on the label. It was made from sweetened rice milk I believe. The flakes are cut very thin and a delicate. I think would take a great candidate for fold and stuff, though haven't tried yet. Moisture is perfect out of the tin, no need to dry it out. I've gone through a number of tins, and as tobaccos go, it's a very good staple to have on hand for RYO smoking. I find an Orlik rollie bests any off-the-shelf cigarette. Compared to other brands, Orlik's Golden Sliced sets a reliable standard by which you can measure others. There's a simple sweetness, a citrusy tangy note, and a small Perique nibble on the palate. In comparison, the Reiner's Long Golden Flake (Blend No. 71) is a tastier, richer smoke with distinct notes of honey and orange. Similarly, for very wordy different reasons, I also find Savinelli's Brunello Flake better than Orlik. But, all that said, Orlik makes for a lighter smoke than either of these, and still puts to shame any commercial cigarette...
Update: Still amazing a year later - it's a real staple tobacco to have in your collection. And in spades, for that matter - it's just too easy a smoke. Read Less

and. I usually set a few pinches aside for about 15 to 30 minutes before smoking to get it to the dryness I like. It always burns well, almost no relights right down to the heel with no tongue bite. The flake roll is a little unique and took me some getting used to, being a fold and stuff kind of guy but it works. I enjoy this one out of a dedicated Peterson Deluxe 12.5 and it never disappoints. e enjoyed by fans of Virginias in general or as a mild VA/Per flake. The Perique is nearly undetectable. Unless you let the tin age for some time, you may not even notice the Perique at all. Don't get me wrong, these are delicious flakes from an early age and don't need to be aged to enjoy. What time can do is miraculous though. The Virginia becomes sweeter and fruitier and as such will no longer give the Perique a place to hide. The Perique provides a slight peppery spice that I really love in the retro-hale. It's never too strong, and is oft times regarded as never enough for fans of hearty VA/Pers. The flakes are smoke-able fresh, dried, or slightly moist...however you find yours. I prefer these flakes on the slightly dry side, mostly for the ease of lighting. As flakes, they burn a little slower, which makes for a nice half hour smoke per flake in my case. I usually fold and twist these into the bowl to load them which works great since they are so thinly sliced. I like to smoke OGS in a comfy billiard, but I've enjoyed it in many shapes and in both briar and cob. Some say this blend is bitey, and it can be if pushed too fast. Just relax and sip on it slowly and you should do fine. If you still find it harsh, just give it some time to age and sweeten up and you'll see it makes a big difference. That's about all I can say; Orlik Golden Sliced is almost universally praised, and readily available. If you have never tried it, then it's time you should. Enjoy. Read Less

have a much greater appreciation for this blend when I fold and stuff. If I rub it out beforehand it will burn hot and the flavor isn't as good, but with folding and stuffing brings out a lot of the sweetness in this blend. The Perique is primarily noticeable in the retrohale only, and I haven't noticed it in the flavor really. In my opinion, there are a ton of better va/pers out there in every metric, but OGS is a very economical flake that can give a sweet, haylike virginia smoke with a light topping that doesn't interfere much with the flavor. I'm not saying OGS is bad, and for lovers of golden Virginia tobaccos there is a lot to like here because this is a tasty and sweet bright virginia light vaper. For my tastes, however, the Dunhill Virginia's and vapers with more red Virginia and Perique are more up my alley. I will enjoy OGS occasionally when I'm looking for something milder. Smoke this one as slow as possible using the fold and stuff method for optimal results. Sipping will reward you with flavors you didn't know it had. Mild flavor and nicotine with medium body. exas and I smoke a lot of this one in the summer time. It's got your typical VA taste profile and the citrus top notes just makes this one tasty any time of day. The only fall back in my opinion is that it doesn't contain much nicotine but that's a pro for those looking for an all day smoke. This can certainly be that. I would say this is absolutely essential.
I can't help it, the early reviews of this crack me up! It just goes to show ya that the power of suggestion is very powerful indeed. When the tin description error read Burley, guest what? Everyone was tasting Burley! I tried this to see what the fuss was about. I still don't know. There was as close to no flavor present as could be imagined. Smooth, yes, but also flavorless. Perhaps I'm spoiled for big flavors by my love of English blends.

nutes. Tin aroma was fruity. Did not taste the citrus, but rather a berry. Bowl burnt slow and cool, and this is probably a result of the cut and method of packing I used. Flavour was good and a bit stronger than what I usually smoke (aromatics), with a creamy after taste.. The only down side was that the slow and long tenure of the burnt left little flavor at the bottom part of the bowl. Will have to try it again with a rubbing and a lighter packing. Read Less

s. I ordered the 50g tin, which is round, and so the flakes came smashed together into this uniform mass and were difficult to separate. On top of that, my tin came rather dry, and as a result, flavor was lost quicker than I expected. Perhaps I received a bad tin, but this is certainly a tasty and simple choice that could be good for an all day smoke. Read Less

More of a subtle sweetness here. I can see this being an all-day blend, but I only smoke it occasionally. Grassy, toasty flavours on the draw, with an herbal quality and some caramel/maltiness on the finish.

s everyone has different levels of tolerance there. The wife loves the room note; although, I'm not one of those lucky persons who get to smoke inside. As a new pipe smoker, this is a very smooth and easy tobacco to smoke. Decent flavor with a pleasant after taste. I would say it's mild to a weak medium. Nothing exciting but definitely a must try for new pipe smokers.

Folks, I just don't get this mixture at all, it gets a two because it is still tobacco. Smells like lawn clippings, burns well and is very one sided taste wise. To me this is on par with your typical drug store non aromatic blends.

According to Orlik Factory Manager, Troels Juul Mikkelsen the label is an old translation error, which unfortunately has not been corrected, it should have read Perique instead of Burley. Which kind of makes sense because i believe perique is just Burley that has been pressed and allowed to ferment in its own juices. Read Less

Incidentally, the tin is mislabeled. There is ZERO Perique in it. It's almost entirely Virginia with a smidgen of Burley. I don't know why they haven't corrected the label, but I promise you, there's no Perique in Golden Sliced. Read Less

A good everyday smoke. I tend to smoke fast, and it doesn't do me wrong. The nicotine level is nice, and leaves me satisfied, and its just got a nice, clean virginia taste. I only detect anything citrusy from time to time.

tisfying Virginia with very minimal top flavorings, just a subtle citrus that really freshens up the mellow no bite tobacco flavor. 100g lasts me about two weeks as I usually smoke this mid-day or evenings, but really is a good first pipe in the morning. I like to smoke this in a large pipe and smoke it kind of slow to really pick up the fresh sweet Virginia. I try to keep 3 or 4 tins on hand so I don’t run out between orders and occasionally I will pass along a tin to another pipe smoker to get their response.
