My kind of aromatic: unadulterated.
September 02, 2018
Product: Sail Aromatic (Green) 1.5oz
Sail: Aromatic has a wonderful niche among aromatic blends. Sail seems to have perfected NOT covering up the natural flavors of the component tobaccos. With Sail: Aromatic, they have added Latakia (and probably used less Burley and more Virginia than... Read More
Sail: Regular) to give this blend a cool, slightly smokey aroma. It's not a Latakia heavy-hitter, but along with the Orientals it becomes an almost Balkan style blend. And yet, it doesn't seem to fall victim to the flavors I associate with Aromatic-English crossover blends either. It retains a rather unique profile. If they've added a topping or casing, they've made it totally undetectable. If they want to call that an “Aromatic”, that's my kind of aro! It's not an American style aro for damn sure. All of the tobaccos here seem very potent. Like Sail: Regular, this is a medium to medium-full strength smoke with bold flavors and aroma. I'm always able to pick out the various natural flavors and still enjoy their combined aesthetic. The mechanics never disappoint, always packing and lighting easily. Freshly opened, the pouch is moist, but not overly so. I usually finish the pouch before it gets too dry, so it retains a nice moisture balance for some time. The flavors throughout a bowl are very consistent. Anecdote: I remember I was smoking this outside a service station waiting on truck repairs once when suddenly I was surrounded by a small crowd (two couples, as I recall) that seemed to have flocked to me solely to ask about the aroma from my pipe. It's the sort of story that you hear happened to others, but I remember being startled by it when it actually happened to me. Naturally, a certain pride came over me and I was happy to tell them I was smoking “Aromatic Sail”. Maybe the days when people reacted positively like that are gone, I don't know, but if anything can help people see tobaccos aren't all bad for you and actually have a pleasant rewarding side, Sail: Aromatic's certainly a contender. A Great OTC Tobacco

Product: Sail Aromatic (Green) 1.5oz
Although my first bowl wasn't much pleasant, it grew on me until I finished the pouch and bought some more later on. It's presented as a Broken Flake cut rather than Ribbon as mentioned and might be compared to some good earthy Virginia Flakes with s... Read More

All Piper’s Should Buy A Pouch

Product: Sail Aromatic (Green) 1.5oz
So that we can start the Great Tobac Debate of 202?: I bought this on the recommendation of a customer who strongly encouraged me to do so because it was all he smoked in his pipe when he smoked. How do I tell him that this Tobac almost made me throw... Read More
up? I opened the pouch and went “Woah!” as a rancid odor wafted into my nostrils. Do I want to actually burn this in one of my pipes? I looked at my corn cobs, and then thought, maybe the burning note is pleasant, and loaded up my Angel’s Share. It lit fine, but there were no distinguishing notes to the aroma. Half way through the bowel I came to the conclusion that this was most likely a cigarette smoker’s tobacco: something you just inhale for the nicotine hit. About ten minutes later, I retrohaled, and my body was shook with an uncontrollable spasm of revulsion. At the stop light, I dumped that bowel, and at the bank, while waiting for the teller, I reloaded my pipe with some Amaretto Cavendish to wash this Green Sail OUT of my system. On reading the package notes I thought perhaps this was a Balkan Style Tobac, but there are NO notes of fruit from cavendish, no fermented notes from perique, no campfire smokiness from Latakia, just an unpleasant, unidentifiable note that I can only describe as “rancid”…and I was absolutely stunned that this claims to have anise as a topping: zero licorice, zero sweetness. I have cellared it to the bottom of the cellar. I’ll try it again in a year or so with my other “Revolting Blends”. Read Less
Non-overpowering Aromatic blend

Product: Sail Aromatic (Green) 1.5oz
I like this OTC blend very much. Although it is an aromatic, it does not overpower you with sweetness at all. I prefer this blend to many of the US aros. I had no tongue bite, but if you draw too much too fast, you'll feel it. I let the tobacco breat... Read More
he a bit before packing the pipe, and that allows for a really nice long sipping smoke. I enjoyed the first bowl, but after the 4th or 5th, I really started to get excited about this. If you're looking for a decent OTC, smooth and pleasant smoke, Sail Green is it. Read Less

I recall it to be much more of an aromatic with a high rate of room note. The texture is much different. I could could tell that it is not the same as the original with the first wiff even before I smoked it. I regret that I bought 3 pouches. Because... Read More
it was so difficult to find in Toronto Canada I jumped at the chance and ordered 3 pouches. Lesson learned, Look before you leap or try it before you order too much. Mabey it will improve in time, lol last time I smoked this was 20 years ago. Any suggestion how to improve the room note also make it more aromatic. Read Less

Product: Sail Aromatic (Green) 1.5oz
I am new to pipe smoking and have tried several different tobaccos already. Sail is the very first one to burn perfectly from the top char all the way down. The moisture level was as “Goldilocks” as it gets, with a very good pouch aroma. The room not... Read More
e is great, and the only area where it might lack is in the “robust flavor” department. I wouldn’t say that it is bland, but it is certainly smooth and mild.
I think Sail succeeds at what it is trying to do. Giving pipe smokers a hassle free, pleasant experience. I can already tell that this will be a staple for me. Especially when I don’t want to do several relights. I almost think you could win a slow smoke contest with this stuff. I smoked it in my MM Country Gentleman cob, and it lasted about 40 minutes. The smoke I expelled would get a little thin, as a prompt to give it a tamp, and it kept on going. It took a few tries to get a get that top char, but once I had it, it smoked better than anything I have experienced all the way down.
If you are a noob like me, I highly doubt you will be disappointed. I’m sure some veterans could find things to criticize, but it smoked better than anything I have tried so far - and I have tried many well known, popular (and more expensive) tobaccos.
4.5 out of 5 - highly recommend. I only removed half a star due to the very mild flavor.
PS - it smokes so well that it can get a little hot on your tongue, watch out for that, ha-ha. Great stuff, though. Read Less

This could be a good all day smoke. Pouch note is nice. About right on moisture level. Can just smell the Lat, not taste it. A little gurgle, but all aros do. No bite. Was really surprised by this one. I'll keep this one around.
