About This Pipe
Abe Herbaugh, a skilled American artisan, draws heavily from the Danish pipe-making tradition, particularly in his use of graceful curves and refined, minimalist lines. It is fitting, then, that Abe honors the renowned craftsman Bo Nordh—a maker who, though not Danish himself, was both influenced by and influential to the Danish tradition—with this striking Horn design.
Nordh's Horn combines natural fluidity with a firm, geometric structure, creating a pipe that is both elegant and architecturally precise. Herbaugh's interpretation preserves that balance, with the shape's crescent-like outline defined by facets on each flank and along the top and bottom. These facets converge at a flared, eye-shaped rim, adding visual interest to the otherwise flowing form. Out back, in another nod to Nordh's original, the steeply curved mouthpiece continues the taper and trajectory of the stummel, echoing the posture of the bowl. A crisp sandblast further enhances the tactile experience, highlighting rippling grain across the briar's surface.
