About This Pipe
Gustavo Cunha, the Brazilian artisan behind marTelo pipes, combines his background in woodworking and furniture design to create a diverse portfolio, ranging from traditional designs to organic Freehands. MarTelo's mission is to preserve the pipe-smoking tradition by crafting pipes with a soul — living pieces that evoke happiness from his clients and friends.
We have received several Apple shapes from marTelo in the past; this particular rendition marks the first straight example we've seen executed in Nosewarmer proportions. The entire composition measures just four and a half inches in length, featuring the shape's characteristic rounded bowl. The bowl's muscularity carries through the rest of the profile, resulting in a form that is both compact and robust. The stem is fashioned from tortoiseshell-like acrylic, tapering dramatically toward the bit. The junction is accented with a band of mammoth, its warm hue complementing the overall palette. The stummel is finished in one of marTelo's high-contrast sandblasts, highlighting rippling growth rings and intersecting flame grain along the bowl's flanks.
