About This Pipe
One of precious few pipe artisans from Indonesia, Wandi Riyadi started smoking a pipe while working as an IT engineer but soon found himself infatuated with crafting pipes. He became a full-time pipe maker in 2013, drawing inspiration from Danish and Japanese artisans and even crafting his own tools to for his workshop.
This bent Dublin of Riyadi's is a very unique take on the shape, crafted with a wide shank and two "spikes" to demarcate the end of the shank and the beginning of the bowl, not to mention a pair of ridgelines to mark space between the bottom of the bowl and the heel. All of the lines Riyadi draws are precise and sharp, and the grain he managed to find out of the block he started with: tight flame grain ringing the walls of the bowl, with lovely birdseye on the top and bottom of the shank and the rim of the bowl. The shank is lightly upturned and ends in a very wide face for the much narrower, bent vulcanite stem. What Riyadi created here is a Dublin, but a Dublin on his own terms that will be appreciated by any fan of the classic shape and anyone looking for a unique take on it.
