About This Pipe
Wandi Riyadi, an Indonesian artisan based in Tasikmalaya, West Java, made the transition from IT engineering to pipe crafting in 2011. Drawing inspiration from renowned Japanese and Danish masters such as Bo Nordh, Hiroyuki Tokutomi, and Sixten Ivarsson, his work is distinguished by his signature organic style, characterized by intricate curves and sophisticated structure. While Riyadi excels at creating bold, eye-catching pieces, he also produces more traditional designs. His skill and distinctive vision have earned him recognition as one of Indonesia's foremost pipe makers, with a dedicated international following.
This bent Dublin is a distinct rendition from Riyadi, featuring a tall bowl positioned at the fore of a flared shank-and-stem combination. The design presents a playful juxtaposition, driven by the contrast between the bowl and the shank; the shank is set low against the bowl before sweeping and flaring toward the stem. A crisp ridgeline demarcates the bowl, serving as the sole geometric feature along an otherwise fluid form. The junction is accented with a thick band of Ivorite, its pale hue offering a satisfying contrast to the rest of the profile. The stummel is finished in a light sandblast, highlighting a striking intersection of flame and ring grain along the bowl's flanks.
