About This Pipe
Wandi Riyadi, an Indonesian artisan based in Tasikmalaya, West Java, made the transition from IT engineering to pipe crafting in 2011. Drawing inspiration from renowned Japanese and Danish masters such as Bo Nordh, Hiroyuki Tokutomi, and Sixten Ivarsson, his work is distinguished by his signature organic style, characterized by intricate curves and sophisticated structure. While Riyadi excels at creating bold, eye-catching pieces, he also produces more traditional designs. His skill and distinctive vision have earned him recognition as one of Indonesia's foremost pipe makers, with a dedicated international following.
This bent Egg is a handsome example of Wandi Riyadi's eye-catching compositions. The bowl is tall and softly canted, with an easy taper through the walls and a robust heel. The shaping of the piece accentuates the bowl's bold form, while its sleek cheeking along the transition further emphasizes its profile. The shank itself takes on an elliptical shape, tapering ever so gently toward the base of the elongated, well-bent saddle stem. The stummel is finished smooth in a rich honey-blonde stain that highlights captivating flame grain along the bowl's flanks and bold clusters of birdseye across the underside of the composition.
