About This Pipe

As one of Denmark's most revered artisans, Former's legacy is rooted in tradition yet shaped by a continuous pursuit of perfection. Beginning his career at just 15, Nielsen honed his skills under Poul Rasmussen before moving into a supervisory role at the iconic W.Ø. Larsen workshop, where he helped guide and mentor legendary figures like Teddy Knudsen, Tonni Nielsen, and Jess Chonowitsch. After a decade at Larsen, he struck out on his own, forging a reputation for excellence that has since influenced generations of craftsmen around the globe.

A handsome example of Former's prized craftsmanship, this bent Dublin is an eye-catching piece rendered in beautiful grain. From the proportions of the bowl to the sweeping lines of the shank and stem, the design immediately commands attention. The bowl features full, palm-filling proportions and a broad expanse of plateau along the rim, while the low-set shank tapers softly as it reaches the junction. Together, these elements create a pleasing sense of juxtaposition through the bowl and aft of the profile while maintaining a fluid, cohesive flow. The junction is accented by a silver ferrule, whose flared section aligns with an expansion ring at the stem, creating a handsome stacked look through the aft. The configuration of the stem and junction mimics the appearance of a military mount while retaining the classic mortise-and-tenon arrangement. The stummel is finished in a rich, chestnut stain, highlighting captivating straight grain along the bowl's flanks and dense clusters of birdseye across the heel.
