About This Pipe

Jason Mouton has quickly established himself as one of America's most exciting artisans, crafting everything from refined Anglo-French classics to boldly sculptural compositions such as this striking Flipping Fugu.

A distinctly Japanese interpretation of the Blowfish shape — "fugu" being the Japanese word for blowfish — this piece presents a breathtaking silhouette defined by a sweeping, semi-crescent arc of briar that extends well beneath the bowl. The dramatic curve imparts a sense of motion, as though the form is caught mid-flip, inspiring the shape's evocative name. Perched atop this arching foundation, the bowl thrusts outward with confidence, framed by the asymmetrical ridgelines that are hallmarks of the Fugu design.

A brilliant horn ferrule extends from the shank and transitions gracefully into a subtly curved saddle stem. The stem's gentle arc echoes the sweeping line of the stummel, reinforcing the composition's fluid sense of movement. Dressing the pipe is a gorgeous honey-blonde smooth finish that showcases stunning displays of birdseye and cross grain across every facet of the briar, the pale stain allowing the wood's natural beauty to take center stage.

A work of this caliber deserves to be both displayed and celebrated, and to that end, Mouton has included the pipe with a custom stand and matching tamper.
