About This Pipe

A firm industrial stance meets Tokutomi-esque asymmetry here in this bent Dublin from Jared Coles, showcasing not only the young American carver's stylistic breadth but his ability to meld myriad influences and cues into one cohesive composition. The former comes into play in the sheer visual weight lent to its broad and fanning bowl and firmer lines of the shank and stem — the latter apparent in the undulating edges and domes of the rim, with a rather organic, spur-like heel just beneath the transition. The real beauty, however, is in the details; Jared pulled out all the tricks here, blending in smooth-polished and stained portions along the rim to highlight its inherent asymmetry, without distracting from the form's gorgeous ring grain pattern or aforementioned shaping. Beautiful, elegant work form Jared here.
