About This Pipe
Rooted in the centuries-old pipe-making tradition of Saint-Claude, La Bruyere reflects the craftsmanship and understated style of artisan Thomas Manzoni. For the past 15 years, Manzoni has worked at Chapuis-Comoy, specializing in pipe assembly for everything from classic shapes to spigots and army mounts, while also developing his own skills as a pipe maker. Trained by Pierre Morel and Bruno Nuttens, his work embraces a contemporary-classic aesthetic, pairing pure, traditional shapes with carefully selected briar, morta, olive wood, and other fine materials, all with an emphasis on creating pipes that smoke as beautifully as they look.
Featuring a tight-knit profile, this bent Pot from La Bruyere is a comfortable piece, its plump proportions fitting nicely in hand, while the well-bent shank-and-stem combination promotes a comfortable smoking posture. There is an abundance of muscularity throughout the design, with the shank's thickness owed to the Reverse Calabash chamber it houses, which is designed to collect excess moisture as the pipe is smoked. The stummel is dressed in a sandblasted finish, highlighting stacked growth rings along the bowl's flanks, all stained in a dark hue for an overall moody color palette.
