Honestly, this is my first bowl that I'm smoking as I write, and I am impressed. The aromatics are present, but not overdone or cloying. The mouthfeel is creamy and pleasant, and the tobaccos blend well enough to give some satisfying body. I'll update as I smoke through the tin, but overall I'm pleased with this blend. UPDATE: Just an update now that I've blown through the 1 oz. sampler and am about to order 4 oz. more, confirming my initial impression. This is an excellent balance between an aromatic and traditional blend, IMHO. Those more sensitive to aromatics may have a different experience....Read More

Smoking Pipes Rating : 3.7

This ribbon cut Virginia is an impressive looking uniform cut blend of mostly golden raisin colored cuts, with a nice aroma of whisky, sugar cookies, vanilla and some warm spice , like cinnamon but not “hot” r>
I sampled it several times using a MM Missouri Pride.

Disclaimer: I have had this blend before. I ordered a tin several years ago.

The question from this blend for me is should it be called a Virginia or should it be called an aromatic? There is no wrong answer here , I think. It’s a beautifully balanced between sweet and spice with the virginias and Perique and orientals all taking the stage in smooth transition with one another.

Oriental spice seems greater than a signature Perique spice - but that’s good, too. Orientals and Virginias in the right blends ratios set me alight like a bonfire. Here I almost - almost- get there , but fall just short of falling in love. It’s the sweetness.

“Make your mind up!” I can hear some say. “Either it’s greatly balanced or it’s too sweet!” I hear you say. And both are right.

I think the hang up for me is when I see a formula that is “whisky plus (insert booze)” my brain always goes to a navy flake or rum flake place. This does have the boozy influence- and it def delivers in the Virginia - but it’s more PawPaw’s aromatic than reminiscent of a Navy Blend IMO.

Don’t push it - it will get hot and punish you. Smoke is thin and lacey, but snow white.

Is it life changing? Not for me , no.

Is it a solid middle of the road option? For sure.

My rating : 3- this is good - I’d buy it on sale Or to get free shipping in an order

Artificial taste, and will ghost even a meerschaum! Be very careful not to use the virginia pipe otherwise it will keep haunting you for bowls to come.
My go to

I bought this blend when I first started smoking pipes. The bourbon & vanilla were what drew me in as I was smoking mainly aros. This has since become my everyday smoke while on the go. The toppings are fairly light & don’t get in the way of the tobacco. The VA’s do the heavy lifting & the Turkish & perique weave nicely together to give it some depth. The bourbon & vanilla start off strong, but quickly move to the back seat as the bowl burns down. The black cav keeps everything cool & the burley gives it some bass notes. Mild nic hit. I typically buy it in bulk, but got a tin to age just to compare in a few years. I’m hesitant to leave such a good review because I don’t want this blend to get so popular it gets hard to find!...Read More
sharpness present will not make this tobacco a "frequent visitor" to me

Product: Cornell & Diehl John Marr 2oz
An intriguing blend that brings together a complex combination some might say a surfeit of flavors. Tin Note: Upon opening the tobacco, a boozy topping plays well with the hay-like aroma of the Virginia tobacco. There is a subtle fruity undertone, which I cannot place. Unlike most American aromatics, the topping in this blend does not overpower the flavor of the tobacco. The Blend: At the first light, the grassiness of the Virginias are clearly present as the major component of the blend. The mix of Virginias here do tend to bite a little, so keep your cadence slow. The Turkish leaf adds a distinct dry woodsy nutty flavor to the blend. The slight spiciness of the perique presents itself as you make your way through a bowl. The Burleys and Cavendish play a supportive role and easily hide in the blend. The ribbon cut packs and burns well all the way to the bottom of the bowl. There is a little harshness, which holds this blend back from perfection. A good blend that might draw aromatic smokers to explore va/pers and oriental forward blends but the sharpness present will not make this tobacco a "frequent visitor" to me....Read More
