e that reflects the comfort in an austere codger blend. There is absolutely no casing, dressing or topping present. It needs no flavoring.
The Cube cut and Dark Burley have proven, to me, to be the bigger, tougher older siblings of the Red Virginia here. They're tough, strong, flavorful, and pack a serious haymaker punch in the unassuming nature of this blend. There's a dry, nutty, woody flavor profile that emboldens the other components. I have never, knowingly, had any cube Cut Burley before.
The Perique is on the sidelines just waiting for the right moment to jump into the fray, teeming with depth, strength and a spicy boot to the ribs. Its dark, plummy, and piquant tone melds flawlessly with the Burley. The percentage of Perique here is right on the money for its purpose.
All the while, the Red Virginia bolsters this blend's character with a distinct sweet, mature and refined disposition. It provides a rich, gentle, dark fruity geniality. It keeps in time with its bready, mildly tangy and sugary complexity.
There's a very deep, dark, thick room note present here and I am thoroughly enjoying it. It reminds me of a solid, heady cigar. The nicotine content is so blissfully high. It leaves me wanting for nothing. A bowl of Old Joe Krantz and a cup of good, strong coffee is all I need to start my day.
Overall, this blend offered me so much more than I initially expected. It has been a joy to smoke every bowl that I have thus far. When everything else in my cellar seems uninspiring or redundant, Old Joe Krantz is an ambitious and ever-ready candidate.
To be honest, if I smoke a bowl that just doesn't hit the spot, I pack a small, quick bowl of Old Joe Krantz and scratch that itch.

Good Burley blend

because at times blend produces a cigar like taste which while is not unpleasant still harsh. Perique gives its usual spice and very masterfully added neither too much nor too little.
Blend tastes the same both in briar and meerschaum pipes. For some reason I liked it the most in Poker or Apple shaped pipes.
Altogether It is a very nice Burley blend which I really enjoyed smoking. I would rate it higher but I enjoy Irish Flake with occasional Cumberland more.

Earthy, nutty, mildly acidic, with a fermented quality from the Perique that also brings a black pepper quality that you may appreciate from a good cigar. Much easier on the wallet than a good cigar, Old Joe Krantz is a bargain given all that it delivers.
