About This Pipe Tobacco

Super Balkan is mostly a bright flake mixture with Perique, Latakia, and Burley, spiked with high grade Turkish leaf. An even heavier dose of Latakia than found in Atlas Balkan. One of Cornell and Diehl's oldest blends.

This blend is remarkably smooth and easy to smoke. The bag note reminds me of figs, with a decent amount of sweetness. The cut is long ribbons with a lot of broken flakes. Moisture wise its on the dry side, but it smokes perfectly with no drying time.

The flavor is complex, I can taste citrus and hay from the Virginias underneath the fullness of the burley. Surprisingly I don't taste much Latakia, a bit of smokiness/woodiness, but it supports the other flavors more than it stands on its own. As for the Perique and Orientals, I definitely taste the spice/incense from them but they contribute more to the mouthfeel than the flavor for me.

I like this blend, but I find it a bit boring. It's obviously full of flavor, high quality tobacco, and easy to smoke; but it just doesn't do much for me beyond that. Ironically the description of this blend compares it to Atlas Balkan, which I tried a few weeks ago and immediately became one of my favorite C&D blends....Read More

I was lucky to get one before it was gone. It has the same scent I remember from the real Balkans, found in many luxury brands, but at a reasonable price. Choosing BK from C&D was definitely a great idea.

I buy C&D Super Balkan 8 ounces at a time because I never want to be without it. It’s a masterclass in what a Balkan blend should be: smoky, sour, and slightly spicy. Unlike some Balkans that feel 'thin,' the addition of Burley here gives it a great body and a satisfying punch and because this blend has Perique and Virginia, it actually ages beautifully. If you can manage to tuck 2 ounces away and forget about it for six months, you’ll find the Latakia mellows out and the Virginias get even sweeter.
