is smooth and even. I hesitate to say mild because there's definitely a full flavor it's just not overpowering or in-your-face. I get a lot of the fullness and oak/nut from the burley, and there's some leathery/meaty/savory-ness as well. I don't taste much perique at all, there's a slight tang that could be it though.
The smoking experience is great, it lights and stay lit very easily, and this is probably the "coldest" smoking blend I've ever experienced.
I'd place this blend closer to a burley than an English, which I actually really enjoy. Easy smoking and no frills, I'll definitely be stocking up on this blend....Read More
I love English/Balkan blends, but this one is too raw

ht in your face, the burley tries to make up for it with a strong Nic hit, and the perique adds spice without tempering anything. I'm going to jar most of what I have and age it for 1-2 years to see if I can tame this beast. Some others will get mixed with dark fired Kentucky and Virginias to see if I can add "midrange" to the smoke. If you want to see where the far side of English is on your tongue, this is the one....Read More
It's just not for me I guess

helmed. Neither of us are snobby tobacco smokers as a rule. The blend was a little extra drying, and the flavors weren't as complex as many other Balkans tend to be. To me it seems a little too mild for a Balkan, a little too unnoticeable. So this one just wasn't for me I guess. It's rare that I find a nice non-aromatic pipe tobacco blend that I don't love, so it's notable. Atlas is going to be in my cellar for eons so I'll return to it every year or so, to give it many more chances....Read More

. There’s a “fresh bread” smell in there somewhere , too.
I enjoyed this one , but I expected to. I like Balkans in general, and this is an interesting approach to one. I say that because it’s different - not bad different - but has its own “identity”. I also enjoyed Stanhope (rated it a 5) and they’re both former Atlas blends , with Stanhope also having the same ingredients plus Virginia. For my liking , I think with the Virginia (Stanhope) is slightly better.
That said this is no slouch. Smokey. Spicy. Iodine. The Latakia is delicious and the Perique ain’t scared to shine either. It’s a rather rounded blend and the burley adds a nice bready / warm side, definitely different than it would be with Virginian or Turkish here.
I smoked several bowls of this while making my dinner at a state park camp ground - and being out in the breeze, with charcoal roasting some pork and a hidden cold beer close by - it’s a real treat. It’s definitely in the neighborhood with other Balkans I like - White Horse, Black House , Sasini - be also clearly not on the same street.
After my dinner I took a small lunt (that’s a
fancy way to say I walked 1/2 a mile round trip to carry my trash to a dumpster) and it was a great blend for the trek. I’m already a fast smoker - even more so walking - and it never got ugly or punishing under duress.
Like I said - good blend. I just got a 1/2 lb of Stanhope - I’m sure I’ll get a 1/2 of this Atlas Balkan to stand beside it.
My rating : 4- this is good - I’m ordering some to have around when I am ordering something else
