. There’s a “fresh bread” smell in there somewhere , too.
I enjoyed this one , but I expected to. I like Balkans in general, and this is an interesting approach to one. I say that because it’s different - not bad different - but has its own “identity”. I also enjoyed Stanhope (rated it a 5) and they’re both former Atlas blends , with Stanhope also having the same ingredients plus Virginia. For my liking , I think with the Virginia (Stanhope) is slightly better.
That said this is no slouch. Smokey. Spicy. Iodine. The Latakia is delicious and the Perique ain’t scared to shine either. It’s a rather rounded blend and the burley adds a nice bready / warm side, definitely different than it would be with Virginian or Turkish here.
I smoked several bowls of this while making my dinner at a state park camp ground - and being out in the breeze, with charcoal roasting some pork and a hidden cold beer close by - it’s a real treat. It’s definitely in the neighborhood with other Balkans I like - White Horse, Black House , Sasini - be also clearly not on the same street.
After my dinner I took a small lunt (that’s a
fancy way to say I walked 1/2 a mile round trip to carry my trash to a dumpster) and it was a great blend for the trek. I’m already a fast smoker - even more so walking - and it never got ugly or punishing under duress.
Like I said - good blend. I just got a 1/2 lb of Stanhope - I’m sure I’ll get a 1/2 of this Atlas Balkan to stand beside it.
My rating : 4- this is good - I’m ordering some to have around when I am ordering something else

the blend. Burly and Perique mostly, but also in quite strange, uncommon combination of tastes.
It feels like the components are not married enough and kinda confuse/violate each other's taste instead of complimenting. May also be incompatibility of certain ingredients, be it the tobaccos used or the casing - I don't really know.
The thing I know for sure is that I like combination of Latakia, Perique and Burley, and I know what to expect from it, but this blend doesn't match my expectations, especially when you expect a good amount of Latakia
as it is said in the description. I think I would give 4 stars to this blend if it was described as not Latakia forward, but rather Perique or Burley.
Luckily, ere is another C&D blend with same components named Tuggle Hall. It is more Latakia forward and much better married and balanced. So, if you like such combination and more Latakia, hit on that one....Read More

This is a strong balkan, but really enjoyable. I like because I can taste the tobacco. It has latakia but not very much.
Balkan blend on an Even Keel

Not what I'd consider a overly Latakia-centered blend compared to several other Balkans.
C+D's Super Balkan is my go-to Balkan. This blend is the mature, well-mannered father of the brawny ne'er-do-well son that is Super Balkan. I'd call Atlas Balkan a decent medium Balkan.

0100 on the porch. Missouri Meerschaum Little Devil Cutty and Atlas Balkin. Bliss. Sure Susan Sarandon isn't here but it's that good. The Latakia. Smooth. It's a wonderful smoke. Nuff Said.

A very straight forward blend with good proportions of each ingredient, thus good rich smoke, a little spice and a Latakia background note, no bite, mild, good flavor and aroma. Simpler is indeed better here.

e of smoky sweetness but overall it's like smoking cardboard with a burnt nut or seed aftertaste that's borderline sour and off-putting.
Took no relights, smells pretty good in the bag, burned down to a fine white-grey ash, the nicotine was medium strength for me and the cut itself is nice and lends to a nice even burn all the way down.
This for me is a far cry from an actual Balkan, it's more of an American mixture and the burley is just too strong, it really overwhelms the other components and tastes poorly balanced in that regard.
Try this is if you really like burley, but it's a pass for me....Read More

First time trying a balkan blend, and have to say it is quite nice. Smokey, lightly spiced and a bit earthy.
time to try more balkans.

The Latakia is very forward on the nose but the Burley is star of this blend. I get the comments of it tasting ashy and the nic hit is definitely stronger than other Balkans I've tried. Not bad over all but I think I'll mix a little in a little Virginia to round it out.
