and mixed, including complex and expensive ones. And so far this seemingly simple blend is the best for me in many ways. I was trying to find a balanced Burley: strong but smooth, with a taste a bit closer to cigar, but not too much of it, very lightly aromatized, but with natural, not drug store chemical aroma. I also wanted it to be not so bland and straightforward, with some complexity and development during smoking. Also, I wanted it to be naturally nutty and chocolaty, also earthy, woody and leathery - but just a bit of all this, in a balanced way.
During my search I realized that most of Burley tobaccos, if not all of them, need to be mixed with other tobaccos in order to have all the balance and features which I wanted. At times I can smoke strong straight Burleys, cause I like their strength and full body, but this way they are too boring and sometimes harsh in the end of the bowl even for me with my love for strong tobaccos.
I tried mixing tobaccos myself to find what I needed, and it worked, but only to some extent.
Finally, I found my perfect Burley blend - Engine #382.
The taste is just increadible! To me Burley plays the main role, and other tobaccos help it to shine - rounding the edges, softening the taste and strength, adding volume and dimensions, spice, sweetness and creaminess, etc. Deertongue acts as a perfect natural aromatic component here. There should also be some casing ofc, but it's not obvious and tastes very, very natural and harmonious with the taste of tobaccos.
I think Engine #382 can satisfy almost any smoker, being a crossover blend - it has all features of VaBurs and aromatics, while not really going into one of those categories. I'm sure it will be also appreciated by Virginia smokers just for some change at times, but primarily this tobacco is for those who adores VaBurs and Burleys.
I'd say the tobacco is universal, with medium or a bit more strengh, with some complexity and development in taste, easy to pack and smoke, not dependable on a type of pipe, good for both on the go and thoughtful smoking. The taste is wood, nuts, some leather, earth, having a mild cigar character, with very delicious light vanilla and chocolate notes, and much more which I can't describe.
I want to recommend this tobacco to everyone and thank C&D and Smokingpipes for this masterpiece!...Read More

ss and some spice element letting me know the Perique was there.
This ribbin cut Virginia is comprised of Virginia, Perique, deer tongue , burley and black cavendish.
Ok. I already said that the deer tongue was a surprise - I honestly didn’t know it was going to be there but it made me happy to 1) pick up in the smell and 2) correctly identify it.
It’s got a nice flavor. I also have a question - where’s the line between this Virginia and an English aromatic? I’m guessing the absence of Latakia.
It’s a nice creamy smoke with the deer tongue and the Perique offering an interesting vanilla spice combo. It floats nice clouds of creamy smoke easily. I’m thinking I could be pushed to bite a bit.
So - a low low bakers chocolate sweetness , with creamy vanilla and some warming spices - that’s what’s up here. I’m learning I like deer tongue blends. This one is good.
My rating : 5

blends are pretty polarizing, either you like em or you dont, i love this blend its flavorful cool smoking and got a medium to just a step past medium nic strength, crooner is great as well but more woodsy and pencil shaving-ish where as this one is more of a va-bur blend with some condiments, this one is a winner but not for everyone...Read More
