Super-Enjoyable Blend!

Product: Cornell & Diehl King Cake 2oz
I found King Cake to be top-shelf excellent in every way. I'm always on the look-out for complex, mutlidimensional "aromatics"... ones that let true tobacco flavors and aromas shine as boldly or more so than other flavoring agents. King Ca... Read More
ke, to my tastes, let the Virginias and orientals really shine, aided and abetted by the precocious perique. To me, the cavendish was like a perfectly balanced light-handed frosting on the whole mix. And the whole was far greater than the sum of its parts! I doubt I'll be able to let it alone for the recommended peak years, 10 or 15 down the line! Read Less

This blend is top notch and one of my new favorites! To start off, I love aromatics. I also love the Virginia/Perique blends or the "vapors". The vapor blends have a spicy and sort of leather like flavor which comes off as strong. My favori... Read More
te vapor blend is the Stokkebye Bullseye Flake. My favorite type of aromatic is the Lane 1Q vanilla. I feel like this King Cake is a perfect blend of my favorite two blends I just mentioned. This is hands down one of my new favorite blends and I will be buying more of it! Read Less

I cracked a tin of King Cake at the start of Carnival Season this year. The tin note really does smell like king cake, so much so that it took me back to mardi gras past, eating some breakfast king cake from Sucre in my treme rental house on fat tues... Read More
day morning. The cut is ribbon with some darker chunks here and there pressed into an easy to break up crumble cake. Smokes cool and sweet, with a hazelnutty topping that tastes very much like the sweet pastry this blend is named after. Nice tang from the red virginias and a little spice from the perique rounds out this blend. I'm going to make this one a yearly tradition around this time of year. Read Less

This is just a great tobacco. I really enjoyed smoking it and those around me loved the room note. I would call it a mild relaxing smoke full of interesting flavors that isn't overly sweet. I will be stocking my cellar with as many cans as possible ... Read More

I'm not a big aromatic smoker other than navy blends. This is similar to that with some extra flavorings. Quality tobacco. It's nice to find a milder C&D blend. Usually they hit you over the head with nicotine. This blend is mild but has substance. I... Read More
wish they would do more interesting mild blends. As I've grown as a pipe smoker I lean more toward milder relaxing blends. Read Less

Look. This stuff is delicious. If you smoke a pipe and like great quality tasty tobacco than buy some. It’s delicious. I’m not doing the whole explanation of nuances in flavor here. This is an aromatic that doesn’t seem like an aromatic.... a VaPa Ar... Read More

This tobacco is ok. There are much better choices!

Once again, an aromatic with zero flavor. Smells AMAZING! Tastes like nothing. Not much aromatic flavor and almost no tobacco flavor either. I need one or the other; pick one and give it to me.

Can definitely taste the cinnamon spice of the perique. I wouldn't call it an aromatic because I didn't think it smelled all that good. Smelled better in the tin.

Tin note of Nutella, rum and fig newtons. Tobacco cut is Krumble Kake, the chunks of tobacco are marbled light brown, medium browns and a little dark brown. Tobacco breaks apart easily and rubs out fairly easy, it is also a bit moist and probably cou... Read More
ld use some drying. Burns moderate with normal amount of relights. The strength is mild-medium and nic is mild. Flavoring is mild, with background notes of spiced rum, overly ripe plums, and sweet nuts. Taste is medium and mostly consistent, with notes of tangerines, ripe fermented fruit, lemon grass, pumpkin spice, dry earth, stewed Rasins, maple, mild cedar and moderately peppery retro. Virginias are leading with Izmir supporting. Cavendish is keeping pace but remains in the back. Perique is all over the place. Room note is pleasant, and aftertaste is great. Read Less

Frankenberry?

Never had New Orleans King Cake before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. The notes I get are strawberry, possibly Frankenberry cereal. Good mechanics, easy smoke, very pleasant.

Originally, I didn't care for it. But the more I dried it out, it really grew on me. There is a definite note of sweet raisin, but it's not overpowering. It's barely an aromatic, I mean, its an aromatic for non-aromatic smokers. The flavors are rich ... Read More

I was gifted this by a good friend and I appreciate the gift wholeheartedly. However, this tobacco won't be made a permanent member of my rotation. I like a good topped tobacco and most "aromatic" blends that contain full tobaccos without t... Read More
he bane of goopy black cavendish. This blend, though, is in no way goopy or even have a constituent of a majority black cav, but C&D was a bit too overly zealous with the flavorings. I have to disagree respectfully with JimInks who noted that the hazelnut was not as apparent in the smoke as the rum and plum. Hazelnut was all I tasted for over half the bowl. The next night I broke some up and left it on the dresser overnight to air out. This helped the blend immensely and toned down the hazelnut flavor to a tolerable level. It was actually enjoyable after some of the casing had dissipated. The Virginias, Perique, and Turkish are wonderful in this blend and work together quite well.
I know this seems like a negative review and there are problems I do have with this blend. However, it is really good for a change of pace from my usual VAs, VaPers, and Burleys. I do think the casing is overdone in my opinion. I also wonder why they included a blend with such a low percentage of Virginias in a series that consists of tobaccos formulated to aged. Oh, well. I do like it, but it's over the top for me. Read Less

This stuff is amazing, just enough topping to let the tobacco's shine through. Not overly sweet but it's there, all tobacco's play well together with the topping. Gets a lot of compliments on the room note. Going to cellar deep.

Ok, I know C&D says this will peak between 10&15 years. I still had to open and try it. King Cake is very good now but I think I will jar this cake for a while and order a second one for 2027.
