"sweet" somewhere.
Sampled in a MM Missouri Pride.
Interesting to me that this blend follows Star of the East - mainly because its just serendipity - they are both rated 4.1, and they fall this way alphabetically within the rating tier - and Stratfotshire has the same components as STOE , plus the addition of black cavendish.
Not going to lie - I thought that the addition of the black cav might hurt the blend - I can't seem to get set with if I like it or hate it sometimes - but this sampling shows it's the right answer for a question that was not even asked.
This blend is softer than STOE - either because of the black cav or maybe the latakia and or Orientals were tweaked - but it's a welcome softness. Whereas when I sample STOE I said " Man, i like this", when I sampled Stratforshire I said " Oh - damn! This is GOOD!"
The Virginias also seem more prominent here - tangy and sweet and fragrant while wearing the smoke leather of the latakia like a bathrobe. Noce thick fragrant smoke here ,and on the retro hale it's a but sharper to the nose than it into the sipped sampling.
I say it is softer - and it is - and it's kind of a "less is more" result - like the sum of all these parts exceeds that of STOE. Its only fitting if STOE was a 4, this would have to rate a point higher. This is good - I'll cellar some for sure.
My rating: 5

Not as Good

iously, the first flavor coming through is the cavendish, with its dirty, soily, gritty taste. Next the latakias and orientals, then the virginias. Eventually the virginias and the cavendish develop a sort of interplay, but all four show through by turns and no puff or sip is ever the same as the last. If you want to play guessing games, go for it, you'll probably like this one. Not for me, though....Read More

Superb English, Strong Flavors

A fine English blend filling the mouth full of banana nut bread and blueberry muffins. Those are the flavors pulled from this tobacco after cellaring for about 8 months, delicious.
Great and strong

Great smoke albeit imperfect. Satisfying English flavor with plenty of body, enjoyed very much and could have turned another bowl immediately, only one relight but probably due to poor packing, definite go-to smoke.

A great sub for Nightcap. As a Brit living in America, I can vouch for the evocative description.
Cheers!
An Unstoved Westminster?

. that's this. The uncooked Orientals are assertive. Their freshness tingles the mouth and bursts forth with a bright and nuanced verdant effervescence. The cavendish acts to tone down the Orientals and VA a little and give the impression of an aged mixture, while also adding a touch of sweetness apart from the VA. The Latakia is light to moderate and doesn't overwhelm. Remove the cavendish, stove this mixture, and you'd have Westminster. I prefer this to Cordial. This use of cavendish and lesser Orientals provides a smoother and slightly more sweet English. Nicotine fairly light and is 1.5 to 2 out of 5....Read More

s it out, pulls the punch a little, letting the brilliant C&D Virginia and Oriental play the citrusy, nutty, sweet notes. Just what I was looking for! A decade as a brother of the Briar has instilled appreciation for the adage "too much of a good thing" as applied to Latakia and Perique. I find this to be a brilliant all day blend. Personally I'll enjoy it as an evening smoke....Read More
Stratfordshire is a very good English blend

The rough cut of this blend allows one to taste each leaf better making for a more flavorful experience. It is very similar to SPC Potlatch this just not having the perique. For a bulk English blend this is terrific.
I think it needs a narrower bowl and/or a longer stem

I only got about one good smoke out of this. I kept pulling looking for more flavor, but I only got a scorched tongue.
