Wow, what an absolutely amazing English blend! I’ve been hearing about HU tobaccos for awhile now and seeing guys on YouTube stockpiling mountains of it and I’ve been dying to just get my hands on a couple tins to try! So this was so exciting to see it arrive in the US! I grabbed a few tins of the ones I was interested in and Khoisaan was the first one I tried. From the moment I popped it open I was hit with an amazing aroma, it was familiar yet at the same time unique. And I felt the same way once it was lit, the aroma and flavor definitely reminded me of some of my favorite English blends but at the same time was so unique and awesome!! Just WOW! I couldn’t stop burying my nose in the tin and taking deep breaths, it’s so delicious! I definitely dont have a developed palate like seasoned smokers so I won’t pretend to be able to pick out all the subtle flavors and things, all I know is I love it! And I can’t wait to try my other HU blends! If you’re trying to decide maybe this will help, some of my favorite English blends are Old Ironsides, Plum Pudding, Captain Earle’s blends, Mississippi Mud, Loch Ness, Blairgowrie, Sextant, Meridian, Cerberus, Black Frigate, and Pirate Kake. This is the first English blend I've had where I immediately fell in love with it and I don't say that lightly as I've never really gotten along with English blends. This is a totally different animal and I think where Khoisaan stands out above the rest is by adding Dark Fired Kentucky and Fire Cured Virginia. There is a certain body to this smoke that I find other English blends lacking. While Latakia is the predominant leaf in this mixture, it doesn't overtake the other tobaccos. I found this mixture to be quite woody, smoky, spicy, and creamy with sweetness that pops in and out. English blends aren’t my go-to. I’m more a Virginia guy and like variety. I do like English blends, but more like once a day or so, not my first bowl. Until this Khoissan. It’s a wonderful blend. All HU blends are high quality with great flavor so my rating is comparing HU blends against each other.
The dark fired kentucky moves the latakia away from being the primary flavor.
There is a slight sweetness that helps mellow the profile as well.
Power level is good making for a more satisfying end of the bowl experience.

Khoisaan, Khoisaan! I crave it in the daytime, I smoke it in the night time, I spend my time at work thinking about it. My God, it is delicious. This English blend gets right what almost every other English blend for me gets wrong. It has FLAVOR. The Latakia is there, but it does not lead the pack. It's smoky, sweet, rich and oh so bloody satisfying. On first light, you're tickled with notes of dates, cocoa, hay and I swear by my blood; salted butter. As the bowl burns down, the flavor changes. There is no tasting just Latakia or Virginia. Only the glorious spectrum of flavors that captivate me every bowl. From Cocoa and dates, to woods and spice, to toasted mushrooms and cream. Not one change is unwelcome, not one note is bland, and the nicotine is perfectly balanced; satisfying, yet never overpowering. All with absolutely NO tongue bite. I consider it a crime such a blend was kept from our market until recently. How dare the Europeans keep this treasure to themselves. On my next order, I will be getting 5 tins of this and henceforth Khoisaan will be my forever evening smoke. My thoughtful wife surprised me with a to tin of this in my stocking. When opening the tin, the tobacco smells outstanding and does not disappoint when you light it up. It is a solid medium of the road in strength and very rich in texture concerning the smoke and mouth feel. The Latakia is not by any means overpowering. Refined and balanced is how I would mark this blend. I think any regular pipe smoker is gonna be hard pressed to not like this but it will particularly draw to those who enjoy Virginia and thoughtfully crafted English blends in the vain of GL Pease English blends…. I don’t think I’m gonna cellar deep like crazy but I will most definitely buy another tin when I’m finished with it...Read More
