A Unique Blend
April 28, 2026
Product: HU Nyala 100g
As a cigar smoker looking to try all the non-aromatic blends with cigar leaf on this site, this came up on my list. I'm not the biggest fan of Burley, however, the red Virginia's did catch my interest.

First bowl, I noticed a rubbery like funk to it akin to a Canadian or craft whiskey. It was
a little off putting so I looked up more reviews and saw some recommended smoking it in a taller, narrow bowl.

After trying that, I was able to extract the true flavors and that funk took a backseat and became more of a subtle exotic-woodsy funk that actually compliments the blend nicely.

The flavor profile reminds me of a white chocolate raspberry truffle with some jungle like funk mixed in. To be transparent, I dont have much experience with cigars with brazilian leaf in it, so its hard for me to describe how it affects the blend, though Id assume its contributing that, "jungle like funk", I had mentioned.

Certainly a unique smoke. Would classify it as sort of a, "dessert codger", that pairs well with coffee or after a mid afternoon slice of cheesecake/dessert, though could be smoked at during any time of the day.

To a pure virginia smokers, this blend is worth it if you enjoy red Virginia's and don't mind Burley. Don't be intimidated by the cigar leaf as it isn't overly rich or strong with nic. For the codgers, I'd recommend if you want to try something a little different. It's certainly a tad bit richer and sweeter than your typical codger blend. English smokers might not find this exciting. And as for cigar smokers, don't go in with expectations of the cigar leaf in this blend. It certainly isn't driving the bus, but adds nicely to the flavor profile.

Overall, an interesting and unique blend. Not something I smoke in my rotation, but enjoy pulling out every once in awhile to mix things up. At 3.5 Oz a tin, it's perfect for cellaring and pulling occasionally for a rich, unique smoke.

Altogether it deserves a above average 3.75/5.

This Nyala Runs Fast!

I tried Makhuwa and enjoyed it, but this is one level up on Makhuwa and the reason for that is the cigar leaf! This is a great summer blend. Burns cool, great flavors and awesome room note, BUT it burns fast. Too fast and I’ve tried to keep my cadence to sipping, and it’s best when sipped from a tall narrow bowl. Great stuff!...Read More

Product: HU Nyala 100g
This is my first time trying a HU blend. Taste really good, burns slow so that you can take your time to enjoy. This Burley blend isn't what I expected to be. I was looking for that traditionally chocolate earthly taste. Instead, I got a different intriguing flavor profile that's really good....Read More

This blend is a bit sweet for me and it’s topped a bit too much for my liking but still really good if you like something more like a light aromatic.
Odd blend

This is the third blend from HU I have tried.
As with the other blends I find good flavor but low power levels.
This blend is a bit different as it is a mild version of a strong tobacco blend and gives more body with a small increase in power.
"Aromatic Codger" would be a good title for thi
s blend.
I recommend Nyala to some Enthusiasts and all Newcomers looking to sample a strong traditional style blend without worry it may be too powerful.
