I don't understand the hype

I really respect this tobacco, but I just don't get it. Maybe I did something wrong, but no matter what I did, it would start out "alright" and then less than half way down just grow increasingly bitter. Like bitter in a not good way. Bitter like chewing pills kind of bitter. And before you accuse me of smoking too fast, I smoke notoriously slowly as 99% of the time I'm doing something else, and puff a couple times right when it's about to go out. I have mastered that intuitive rhythm, and if for whatever reason my rythm was wrong for this tobacco, that itself is a negative attribute, as there are other bulk englishes that taste several times better at double the cadence.

I sat with this blend for weeks. I seperated it into different jars, drying them to varying degrees as I do with most tobaccos. Like all tobacco, I prefer it on the drier side, but even then, it only slightly improved its flavor. I don't hate it, but I would rather smoke something else if given the opportunity....Read More

The way I’ve heard the story, father Dempsey asked Allen Kramer if he could make a bulk house blend something like Dunhill 965. He tried and tried constantly making adjustments to get it just right until one day the reverend stopped him and said “that’s it! Actually, it’s even better than 965”. Now I love 965 as much as anyone, and certainly it’s a classic for a reason. This however, I like a little more. There are so many English blends out there, it’s hard to know where to start. This would be a good place. Medium strength, medium body, and just about everything about it comes up right in the middle. The sourcing of the Latakia is lovely, and the orientals and Virginia are beautiful as well. Slight sweetness, sour, with a nice perfumy creaminess. Definitely a contender for an all day smoke. I can imagine a little age would smooth it out even more, but great fresh. Highly recommended Update: I’ve been noticing that after the first half of the bowl this starts to get a bitterness that im not loving. Like ash on your tongue bitterness. Medicinal even. This might be one of the smoothest and easiest smoking blends I have ever tried. The smoke feels so soft and creamy that the mouth feel alone is enjoyable. The flavor feels perfectly balanced, there's a bit of tanginess and smokey/musty-ness that's very well complemented by a bit of sweet/citrus flavor.
