About This Pipe Tobacco

Introduced by the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in 1907, Prince Albert was named after Edward VII, known as Prince Albert before being crowned king. The portrait of the prince was based on one acquired by the tobacco company at a tea with Mark Twain.

An ultra-classic blend of Burley and Cavendish, with just a hint of cocoa and molasses, Prince Albert is the sort of all-day blend your father or grandfather might have smoked, marked by a timeless flavor and exceptional room note.

Best of the codgers

Product: Prince Albert Prince Albert 14oz
When I was young living in the hinterland, there were very few choices in tobacco for pipes, RYO and cigars. Basically you could get Half and Half, Sir Walter Raleigh, Velvet and Prince Albert and sometimes Carter Hall. Of course there were other tobaccos available but not in those tiny little towns that made up a great deal of America in the aftermath of the second world war...even the ready rolled cigarettes were limited in choices and seemed to be mostly Camels and Lucky Strikes, simply because the little stores only carried few wares as eye couldn't afford to sit on inventory when the popular choices moved much faster. Guess you had to be there. Many more pipe smokers in those days and H&H and PA were very popular. Though I occasionally smoke a bowl of H and H, PA is my choice of codger smokes. Not complicated...some would call it single note, but cool smoking, clouds of smoke and burns to the bottom of the bowl with no relights ( unless you're new and still learning to pack...not to worry, we all had to learn how to do that). This is my choice for chores or driving...don't have to pay much attention to my pipe, just clench and puff. No need to dry or pack in a special way, just one finger pack straight from the pouch. Only thing different, the cans aren't tin any more and storing nuts, bolts, nails (or marbles when I was a kid), just isn't the same...doesn't sound right. If you've wondered what was so special about some of those old time smokes, you should try this....Read More
Great, Simple, and True

Nope, it’s not C&D, Peterson, or Three Nun. I love them all, but Prince Albert is just as good, especially when convenience considered. You run out, and you just run to the grocery store and buy some more.

Opening the tin, I smell raisin and a little earth. Basically what you expect from som
ething claiming to be burley tobacco.

Out of the tin, it is dry enough to pack immediately, no need to set out. It’s ready to go. It packs a bowl easily, no rubbing out or filling the cracks with dust and crumbs.

While no real need to toast and get a false lite (it pretty much just lights if that’s what you want), the first draws taste a bit nutty, sweet, and citrusy. The taste stays consistent throughout the smoke, no guessing games here. Prince Albert has a very nice retrohale, and if you inhale, it’s not going to choke you up. Most people with say it has a nice room note. If it bites the tongue, you deserve it.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants a no-brainer smoke. It’s the good kind of simple all the way around. If you’re looking for a tobacco that’s going to have all the complexity in the world this is not it, but if you looking for a tobacco you can smoke to get the job done it’s right here.

Perfect cut and moisture level. Perfect balance of burley nuttiness with a hint of cocoa. Wonderful room note. And all of this at a very reasonable price. The Prince has it all. Almost. One dinstict negative is the harshness of the burley, it may bother your throat unless you are using a filter. I have gotten used to it, but it definitely has a sharp edge to it....Read More

As a long-time pipe smoker, I would rank Prince Albert right up there with Carter Hall. The tub note is amazing, the room note is pleasant, and the flavor is enjoyable and pairs well with coffee or espresso.

This is my favorite codger blend; great cocoa notes when you sip slowly. This will be in my rotation for as long as it’s available
