recent productions of Erinmore. I think for fans of a nice mild all-day VA flake, you can't do much better. In fact, this is the blend that made me a fan of flakes. And, after trying many other similar flakes available, Erinmore is the one I come back to as the watermark of a great Virginia smoke. I'd give it 5 stars, but I have noticed that the moisture content does vary from tin to tin and ranges from "just right" to needing to be dried out a little first, but it's always quality tobacco. As for taste and aroma, it has the lighter VA hay notes and is quite sweet. Any VA can bite if you're unfamiliar with how to smoke them, but personally I'd have to try hard to get a bite from this one. I'm not sure what the actual flavoring is, but it's a rather unique taste and never overpowers the Virginias, and while some may call this an aromatic, the flavoring is very subtle and balanced. I can't compare it to earlier incarnations, but as it is today, Erinmore is truly enjoyable. Read Less
Erin-MORE Please!

Product: Erinmore Erinmore Flake 50g
A great flake that I find myself returning to again and again. Aged Virginias up-front, a Burley backbone, and a lightly-sweet casing that's ever-present but doesn't translate to a chemical-like flavor at all. Erinmore isn't a grassy and bright type ... Read More
flake, but rather of the richer and more savory variety. The Erinmore top note is immediately noticeable, but pleasant. As the flake ages, that Juicy-Fruit smell and taste fade away. When retro-haled, I get a mildly peppery, Perique-like tingle, yet it's very smooth at the same time. Unlike many Virginia and Burley blends I've tried fresh out of the tin, Erinmore didn't bite my tongue at all, not even when pushed. The moisture content is similar to Samuel Gawith's flakes, but they're much easier to prepare. As many pipers mention, the tin note's like Wrigley's Juicy Fruit, but it fades with drying time and (as previously noted) with aging. The Burley rounds-out the flavor and imparts some extra nicotine. Indeed, I was surprised by the nicotine content of this flake; it's stronger than I expected. I rate it 5 out of 10 on the nicotine scale. Finally, the room note is pleasant for the piper, when you get a whiff of it in the air it's nice, but non-smokers probably won't care for it. Putting it plain & simple, I really enjoy this super-savory flake. When I can't decide which blend to smoke, I often find myself returning to Erinmore Flake. Read Less

flavor to go along with it's Virgina component. It's not something that you light up to keep everyone in the room happy though. My friends say it smells like fruity cigarettes, whatever that means. Still, it's a good, powerful smoke that is both interesting and pleasant. Word of caution though: it ghosts like crazy, so don't use it in a treasured Virginia pipe. Use a cob or something you don't mind devoting to it exclusively. Enjoy. Read Less

so I had to read through the most recent reviews to see if I had to say anything different that would be of value to someone coming to Erinmore Flake for perhaps the first time. There is a lot of expectation around this tobacco, either a floral/fruity love it or hate it crowd over top quality leaf. Coming to Erinmore late myself, I have no prior Erinmore experience so can not talk to what has change or what has remained the same, but I can tell the reader what my experience and thoughts are on the current product.
Upon opening the tin, the flakes are beautifully presented package in its tight square paper. I was not greeted with the scent of pineapple, but there is a definite slight fruity topping slightly moist and dark. So from the initial tin note, tobacco and subtle fruit, more of the citrus variety than the stone fruit variety. Some have said “Juicy Fruit”, but that would be slightly misleading and make one think of more Esoterica’s “And So To Bed” of which this is definitely not, but I can understand the reference as the fruit is evasive, there but undefinable. I tried my first bowl rubbed out and subsequent bowls in a twisted fold and stuff, which I think is my preferred packing for this flake as the rate of burn is easier to control and sip, where this cadence really allows the full depth of this tobacco to shine. So into my meerschaum this goes, I have drilled all my meerschaum stem tenons to accept a small 3mm paper filter to help when tobacco is more moist then my patience will allow to dry. Initial char was spicey almost like there was dark fires Kentucky in the mix, not tongue bite, but spice played across my tongue. Something I was totally unprepared for which is unique in these reviews as I have yet to read another piper express any form of spice in their experience with this mix. On retro Hale and finish, the mouth is filed with the delicate interplay of sweet Virginia and subtle gentle fruit essence. Juicy fruity? Kinda, unique and unplaceable, definitely. The entire bowl plays between the tobacco flavors shifting to spicy sweet and fruity never one over the other but a definite inter play, intriguing, elusive and full. A pipeful if mystery, but by mid bowl the nicotine kicks in and if not careful can easily be too much for a medium size bowl. But, when gently taken through its pace, can be controlled with this unique experience of interplay’s. The finish shines and increases now through the last 1/4th of the bowl.
The end result, teetering on too much nicotine, but enticed with a finish that lingers in the mouth it’s hard to resists coming back to...it is what I imagine a true Irish Flake to be and makes one want to power through the heart palpitation as it is a great bowl of tobacco. This may not be anyone else’s experience, but I can definitely understand why this has a legion of devoted fans, for me, due to the nicotine level a smaller bowl pipe works best as I can not see me coming back again and again to this blend. Having smoked plenty of UF, WF, Marlin F, the nicotine level is higher but in this VirBur flakes it is unique and I am on the hunt for the US elusive Malcolm Flake to compare the two different blends, but until that time I think Erinmore, while not necessarily better then others does have a uniqueness worth experiencing again and again. I have tried both Erinmore and Erinmore Flake, a bowlful of the latter just this afternoon. This tobacco, once the only tobacco I'd smoke, is no longer the delightful fruity mixture I smoked in 1959 through the early 1960s. Then it was compounded by ... Read More
the Irish and was my delight as well as that of friends, full of fruity flavor with a room note that was truly a bouquet. Now it tastes and smells like twigs, tree bark, and burning leaves. Perhaps, the Irish sandbagged the original recipe. The Danish version is sorely lacking both in the original's fruity flavor and bouquet. I will, of course, smoke the two cans I purchased [I don't like to throw money away.] But I will never purchase another of either Erinmore or Erinmore Flake. The flake itself, right out of the tin, is too moist for me, and I'm too impatient to rub it out and wait a while before loading a pipe. Once it's lit, I do get a wonderful, fruity aroma in the room and a smoke that is mild with a bit of a nic hit. For me, that initial burst is nice enough that it's what I remember about the flake. ality: plenty of smoke and flavour to chew on, as it were. As my first foray into a flake cut, I had to learn how to approach this blend. After a while, I discovered that it needs to be rubbed out, rather than folded, and packed with medium tightness regardless of the width and depth of bowl. Once properly lit, it burned down to a fine white ash without requiring much effort or many relights. I would recommend this blend, but with the reservation that it may not be for average aromatic smokers. On the other hand, English blend smokers may profit from this as a foray into aromatics. pick up on. The current tin I'm smoking has a few years age on it and I can tell this one is just gonna get better the longer it sits. The flakes are extremely dark and smells of natural tobacco, I can't really pick up on the topping in the tin note. When lit, the top dressing is noted and it has some wonderful fruit and floral notes that really work well with the natural tobacco flavors. I've heard that when this was made by Murray's that this was heavily perfumed which is no longer the case now that STG is producing it. The top dressing is applied conservatively and just enough to enhance the natural flavors, so I wouldn't actually consider this an aromatic but as you can see most people do. The nicotine strength is no wimp and should totally satisfy folks that crave it, it certainly satisfies me. I'll be going deep in my cellar with this one. This has been one of my favorite tobaccos since i began smoking a pipe. Lovely citrus tin note and a sweet, satisfying smoke that i enjoy at anytime of the day. Can bite if there is too much moisture but i find it a good introductory flake tobacco. J... Read More

this a last option, you are left somewhat dissapointed, but it suffices. Technically a good tobacco; not to be compared to the mixture.

This was one of first "strong"blends that I tried many years ago. I was drawn to it by it's aroma and when I finally tried it, I thought the taste was unique, being a bit sweet but not overly so. Oddly enough, I used the fold and pack method as shown... Read More

Physically, this is an easy to load flake...I followed SPC's fold over and bend method, and this keeps the tobacco cool and sweet all the way down. Yes, the 'mystery' casing is present at first light - but then retreats behind the Virginia blend qui... Read More
te nicely. The melding is very well handled by whoever came up with this blend. I'd recommend a meerschaum for a first try...so that pipe and mixture stay true. There is no gooey dottle to worry about at the finish. Like most others who wrote reviews here, this is a tobacco that grows on you. Note: there is a pretty good nicotine hit, though the taste wouldn't telegraph that. Well recommended. Especially at the price. Read Less
Virginia and Burley and Fruit - Oh My!

Product: Erinmore Erinmore Flake 50g
My first bowl of this was surprisingly pleasant. After reading reviews on that other Tobacco Review site, I was worried about the fruity flavor, but it's a mild flavor and so is the sweetness (hence this is listed as a Virginia and not an aromatic on... Read More
SPC). The fruit flavor and sweetness diminish quickly as the bowl goes on, but they are still mildly present all the way to the bottom of the bowl. After a bit, the Virginias take to the front, then as the bowl gets closer to the bottom, the Burleys become more noticeable, and this pattern has been consistent with every bowl I've smoked. It also burns amazingly slowly and completely.
First bowl my rating would have been 3 stars - my impression was it was a nice change, but not an every day tobacco. Next day I had another bowl. :-) Then next day another then another until the tin is almost gone - it's now part of my daily rotation. My first impression was I would probably get tired of it, but it hasn't happened yet - in fact I seem to get fonder of it with every bowl. Not too sweet, not too fruity, with good Virginias and Burleys. Moderate nicotine, definitely more than most aromatics.
As far as the fruit flavor, it's unidentifiable to me but you'll read lots of varying descriptions in reviews here and elsewhere, from raspberry (I don't taste that) to licorice (I don't taste that either), apricots and or peaches (maybe), Juicy Fruit gum (maybe a little) to pear and banana (maybe slightly). I also get a definite citrus flavor that reminds me a little of Orlik Golden Sliced, but it's a different flavor and a little stronger. Informed sources say there is no pineapple flavor in it even though there is one pictured on the label - the pineapple used to be a symbol of hospitality which is why it was chosen for the logo. Also, the older version of this had a floral aroma, but I don't get that in the current version at all. If you are a Va or Burley purist, you may want to stay away, but if you like aromatics and want to try a VaBur flake, or you want a change from your usual VaBur flake, this might be a good one to try. In any case, it's grown on me and I'll be buying a tin or two to age as well as another one to smoke. Read Less

This is truly a masterful blend, it burns perfectly, righ to the bottom, and has a delicious raspberry/red licorice flavor. There is also a certain satisfaction in rolling it out by hand, will certainly be buying more of this in the future.

Erinmore is its own tobacco not comparative others. Very mellow smoke that reminds me of juicy fruit gum. Im mostly a VA/VAPER smoker but this stays in my regular rotation as a staple.
