I find that Rattray’s Hal O’ The Wynd strides into the bowl like a stern, dignified Highland laird. Unapologetically strong, its dark Virginias speak first, rich with bread-crust sweetness and a wine-dark depth, before the earthy fire-cured notes arrive like peat smoke on a cold moor. There is little ornament here, only an honesty that rewards patience and respect. Smoked slowly, it unfolds with a grave, almost novelistic seriousness, each puff a paragraph written in bold ink. My first Rattrays purchase. I found I liked smokey fired Tobbacy after trying Bryer Works Smokehouse. So I gave Hal O' the Wynd a try. And I am pleased as punch I got the 100 gram tin. it's even better than Smokehouse which I like a lot. I still want to try Marlin Flake and ol Gowry . This is one of my all time favorite tobaccos. I'd love to smoke it daily but I choose to save it for times when I really want a good smoke I can sit with and enjoy.
