About This Pipe
German pipe maker Werner Mummert is known for his eclectic, wide-ranging style. Showcasing his diverse skillset, Werner crafts everything from traditional, Anglo-French-style Billiards to this eccentric, avant-garde paneled Cavalier. The pipe makes the most of both form and function, with elements both stylish and practical. On the practical side of things, the pipe's geometric paneling assures that the heel is a flat surface to rest the pipe upright upon. The completely upright shank gives this Cavalier a posture not unlike that of an Oom Paul. With its slightly bent saddle stem, the pipe has an form that is easy and comfortable to hold in hand.
As for the pipe's beautifying elements, the geometric shaping cues and simple color scheme is playful in a joyous, youthful way, not unlike Mummert's LEGO pipes. Considering the nature of pipe smoking being an adult hobby, I find that such simply pleasing aesthetics can be really refreshing. Mummert also has the briar panels flanking the shank and bowl oriented so that the growth rings apper to be flowing in opposite directions from one another — a subtle, yet gratifying detail. Overall, this is a great piece for those looking for a fun and eccentric smoking instrument.
