About This Pipe Tobacco

Hans "Former" Nielsen began carving pipes in 1956 and has since become a legend of Danish pipe artistry with a worldwide following. In addition to his exquisite pipes, he's released his own line of pipe tobaccos — several of the blends fittingly named after briar's grain patterns.

Bird's Eye Flake from Former is a smooth, classic flake tobacco made from the finest grades of Virginia leaf, blended in layers using traditional methods and then gently matured in order to bring out the optimum flavors of the natural tobacco.

Opened this as soon as it arrived and i'm glad i did, got another VA Perique Blend to add to my arsenal. Nutty, Slightly Sweet, but extremely mellow and smooth from beginning to end of bowl. Very Very impressed and disappointed i did not try this blend before. Not at all spicy, as others mentioned. I will be ordering a lot more of this blend and see what happens after aging it a bit, if i can resist not opening every tin....Read More

I like to carry a flake when I go out, they are just more portable, durable, they hold up better. This is one of the flakes I like to take with me and just like a good flake it is durable, portable and holds up well. This is a meat and potatoes blend, Virginias and Perique, don't expect to be surprised but you will find yourself pleased, it is spicy and savory. It is a good, reliable, and dependable blend. It took a few bowls to like this but I think the trick for me was to age and dry it a little. I wanted something to rotate with my Orlik GS and Sutliff 707 SV. I think this will be great ! In my opinion, it's a little spicy and peppery but I got use to it.
