Amidst the old tomes in a remote corner of the library, you discover an obscure reference to an occult recipe: a pinch of granulated Perique over a bed of Katerini and Virginia, finished with a dash of sweet Black Cavendish to cure the Madness.
H.P. Lovecraft is a cult favorite author of mine, which immediately drew me to several C&D blends I noticed while browsing their website. This has been my favorite of those blends so far. It's a Turkish centered blend like I've never experienced,... Read More balance and thorough, never lacking in depth, strength or flavor. The people at C&D are incredibly skillful blenders, without doubt, but something that stands out is the perfect balance they show with black cav. Black cav can make or break a blend for me. The key quantity is just enough to round sharp edges without detracting from flavor. And they've done it perfectly here. Give this stuff a try ASAP. Read Less
One of my favorite blends.
Leathery, spicy, sweet. The balance of the flavor is delightful and has the tendency to shift ever so slightly with the temp of the burn in the most pleasurable way. I also really enjoy the aftertaste and lingering smel... Read Morel on my hands, keeps me happy long after the pipe has gone cold. -----
Update: A couple weeks since opening the tin and the flavor has smoothed out significantly. I liked the initial heaviness of the fresh tin, but it kept me from going to it frequently. It has lost a good bit of the leathery flavor, but retains a nice natural earthiness. The spice is about the same level, but the sweetness has really come forward, no longer being a background note, but it doesn't try to steal the show. Now I can reach for this tin whenever I please. -----
[Added note: The second two tins I have opened didn't have the initial heaviness that my first tin had, they were also far less moist. Much lighter flavor, just as complex and the same notes coming through, I love this blend.] Read Less

Last year I started smoking 'Innsmouth' in a darkly misshapen pipe at the Halloween season. But this year I became involved in the celebration of Lovecraft's Birthday in August, so I smoked Innsmouth and then moved on to Miskatonic Mixture, I found... Read More them both to be curiously enticing and just right for the occasion. There is a feeling of something strange just out of sight as the flavor of the smoke makes dark suggestions on the palate. I really like them both tremendously and one could be forgiven for giving in to the desire to go ever deeper into darkness with these tobaccos were there not such a wide range to continue to sample in the daylight. Both are perfect for those nights when a gibbous moon hangs in the sky. Read Less
Like Jarrod P. I'm a longtime fan of Lovecraft, so I could not resist C&D's The Old Ones series.
Turkish and Perique blends are my favorites. This blend is certainly smooth, bright, and well-balanced, but I wish the Katerini were more pronounced. ... Read Moreq.v. McClelland's Katerini Classic. I adore this tobacco. The oriental variety used here makes it extremely special and different from so many others. I'll admit, the name made me try it originally (the tacky gimmick of naming blends all kinds of un-related outlandish things usually ... Read Morebothers me terribly) but I ended up actually really appreciating this one for its own merits. Wish they made it in bulk, I'd buy it regularly and by the pound. As it is, it's an occasional treat but one very much worth trying. The best of the "Lovecraft" blends by a long mile for me, but oddly maybe the least reviewed or sold.

I first purchased this blend once I saw that it’s in C & D’s Lovecraft series. I’ve smoked another blend from that series, Dreams of Kadath, for a couple of years. It’s been one of my faves, but eventually I found the sheer degree of rum tin note and... Read More rum flavor a bit too overbearing.
Miskatonic, that blend’s conservative and nuanced sibling, had me at first puff. It could easily be an all-day with its sweet flavor (courtesy of the generous amount of red virginias) and layers of complexity from the Katerini/Turkish and the spicy perique. This makes for a most pleasant smoke, but this one’s definitely not for those who dislike red Virginia.
If you don’t fit that group, do try this gothic VaPer. It’s what all of the top professors smoke at Lovecraft’s Miskatonic University ;) Read Less

Taste, flavor, quality was never as good as the first time... Some tobaccos even had mold.
I'm not that type of a man who hates on something or tries to throw rotten tomatoes, but just be careful pipers.
If you're going to try their stuff be sure to get something else alongside, so that you won't be as disappointed and left without any tobacco to enjoy.

This would be a great blend to smoke on a cold and drizzly night with a good stiff whisky or hot toddy. Each few puffs is something different. Though it doesn't list any cigar leaf in the blend, that was the first thing I smelled when I opened the tin, and it was always in the background through the smoke. The C&D Lovecraft blends that I have tried (awakened elder, dreams of Kadath, and mad fiddler flake) have all been a bit curious and unique in their own rights.
