balance and thorough, never lacking in depth, strength or flavor. The people at C&D are incredibly skillful blenders, without doubt, but something that stands out is the perfect balance they show with black cav. Black cav can make or break a blend for me. The key quantity is just enough to round sharp edges without detracting from flavor. And they've done it perfectly here. Give this stuff a try ASAP. Read Less

Update: A couple weeks since opening the tin and the flavor has smoothed out significantly. I liked the initial heaviness of the fresh tin, but it kept me from going to it frequently. It has lost a good bit of the leathery flavor, but retains a nice natural earthiness. The spice is about the same level, but the sweetness has really come forward, no longer being a background note, but it doesn't try to steal the show. Now I can reach for this tin whenever I please. -----
[Added note: The second two tins I have opened didn't have the initial heaviness that my first tin had, they were also far less moist. Much lighter flavor, just as complex and the same notes coming through, I love this blend.] Read Less

them both to be curiously enticing and just right for the occasion. There is a feeling of something strange just out of sight as the flavor of the smoke makes dark suggestions on the palate. I really like them both tremendously and one could be forgiven for giving in to the desire to go ever deeper into darkness with these tobaccos were there not such a wide range to continue to sample in the daylight. bothers me terribly) but I ended up actually really appreciating this one for its own merits. Wish they made it in bulk, I'd buy it regularly and by the pound. As it is, it's an occasional treat but one very much worth trying. The best of the "Lovecraft" blends by a long mile for me, but oddly maybe the least reviewed or sold.

Taste, flavor, quality was never as good as the first time... Some tobaccos even had mold.
I'm not that type of a man who hates on something or tries to throw rotten tomatoes, but just be careful pipers.
If you're going to try their stuff be sure to get something else alongside, so that you won't be as disappointed and left without any tobacco to enjoy.

rum flavor a bit too overbearing.
Miskatonic, that blend’s conservative and nuanced sibling, had me at first puff. It could easily be an all-day with its sweet flavor (courtesy of the generous amount of red virginias) and layers of complexity from the Katerini/Turkish and the spicy perique. This makes for a most pleasant smoke, but this one’s definitely not for those who dislike red Virginia.
If you don’t fit that group, do try this gothic VaPer. It’s what all of the top professors smoke at Lovecraft’s Miskatonic University ;) Read Less

quite put my finger on. Though it doesn't list any cigar leaf in the blend, that was the first thing I smelled when I opened the tin, and it was always in the background through the smoke. Once I learned how to pack this stuff, I was swept away. This is the most flavorful tobacco. Sweet and hypnotic. Cool and rich down to the end of the bowl. I smoke this out of a rusticated Apple. What a treat!
