Product: Cornell & Diehl Burley Flake #4 2oz
This stuff will knock your socks off. It's especially good after a little rest time in the cellar. Heavy hitter though, do not operate a vehicle or heavy machinery while taking this mixture. The latakia is just slight enough to make it different and the tartness of the virginia is light and fluffy, Kentucky is the extra delicious kind. Highly recommend. The cut is broken flake but super dence and not hard like most broken flake. Packs easy and you almost wanna eat it. One of my all time favorites but at times I had to slow down because of the Nic hit....Read More

Something about this blend just seemed super clean tasting, definitely a higher quality than the C&D Burley's i'm used to. Most burley's I've tried have a ashy undertone, not this one. Very nutty and the subtle latakia makes it super unique. I have a high nic tolerance but this stuff I can't smoke on an empty stomach. Mine sat in a jar for about a year and is definitely a fine treat....Read More

This is a satisfying and perfectly smoky, sweet blend. It has enough bright burley and fruity red VA to make the Latakia become that thing that it can become when it is not overwhelming. I enjoy this with a big homemade latte on quiet mornings when I have some time to think. I find it hard to imagine any pipe smoker who enjoys a strong blend, at least occasionally, not enjoying this one. Give it time to settle down or it will bite you. The required pacing along with the subtle sweet smokiness of it is what makes it the thoughtful smoke that it is. Just lean into it....Read More
How am I Supposed to Know?

So wet in the tin that I would bet it wouldn't burn with charcoal lighter. I spread it out on a sheet of paper and went to the store for 2 hours. When I returned it was as crunchy as corn flakes. I put a humidifier button in the jar and now I get to wait a couple of days for it to even out. I like some C&D/G.L Pease blends, but it's a pain in the ass trying to get them smokeable. I wish C&D would quit drowning their products with whatever it is that they add to them. I never go through this with most of the other
tobaccos I smoke.
Update: I gave this tobacco a dismal review because of its condition upon opening the tin. After I got it stabilized I tried a few bowls and this is my opinion after trying it. The dark fired contributes most of the flavor, a dark and smoky flavor with notes of sorghum. The flavor is not bad, but there are other things that rule it out for me. It is hard to keep lit, and the more you work to keep it going the more you get of its intense nicotine hit. The nicotine comes on with the first draw and does not let up through the rest of the bowl. Even after a large meal I could not finish a bowl of it. To sum it up, it would be a good blend for the flavor if you can take the nicotine, but it's way too intense for me. If you are a big burley fan, go ahead and give it a try....Read More

Beautiful soft well fashioned flake. I have to redux my review on this blend. I was being very critical in my initial review. My first few bowls of this were so-so, but I really didn't dry it properly and smoked it straight from the tin. Give it some dry time, it will surely age nicely too. This is a great tasting blend. Beautiful Burley flake....Read More

I'm largely burned out on Latakia mixtures, but I make exception for this one."Meaty"describes it pretty well. The Lat is there, but so is the Burley. The lat is a supporting role, here. The strength is right there.I'm an unsophisticated lout whose taste buds have been hammered over time.So.....if you're like me,or even if you're notary this if lat burn out is knocking at your door....Read More

Less than a third of the way through my second bowl, I started chuckling. Later I happily told my wife that this blend kicked my a$$. As with a stout or a virile porter, this is a mouthful that you taste all the way in the back of your throat. One-pint limit. This is a blend to smoke across the table from Strider in a dark corner of the Inn of the Prancing Pony at Bree--as an elder local whom Strider has judged not to be a girly-hobbit--or a blend you smoke with Robert Mitchum at a rural still in Kentucky after making a run on Thunder Road. It may bring its own version of too much Izmir. I realized I had to slow down, like you should if you are going to enjoya full plate of bauernfruhstuck. I smoke it in a vintage GBD prince which I have dubbed "The Burley Bowl." Pipe as crucible. Good in the evening about every two week when I am in the mood for an arresting attitude adjustment. Taste is excellent and distinctive....Read More
