bar and Aperitif. Durbar and Aperitif are not available in North America any longer, and while I still have a good supply of Durbar, my Aperitif is gone. When I heard this could be considered its replacement, I was interested. It's close. Now here's the thing with Dunhill/Peterson mixtures... they are sweetened artificially. Whatever their product is; English, VAPER, Scottish... they're all sweetened. Take a tin and open it up. Place the lid back on and seal it up. Place the tin in the drawer for a month or two. When you try it a month or two later, that sweetness will be gone. That's what Cordial tastes like... as if a tin of Aperitif had been opened and set aside for a while. I was able to reproduce a much closer likeness to Aperitif's sweetness by adding Sutliff 507-S Stoved VA. It imparts a heathered honey flavor (smoky/caramelized sweetness) which is missing from Cordial. The best I can gauge is about 20% or approximately 2 oz of 507-S per 8 oz of Cordial. But the downside to adding the sweetness of the VA mitigates the
predominant buttery nuance of the Orientals. I don't want to mess with this, it's good in its own way. Essentially this is a less sweet Aperitif. The absence of the heathered honey in Aperitif will be missed. Nicotine is 2 out of 5. Read Less

While my palate is still very much in training, this is without a doubt my absolute favorite tobacco. Too bad I only ordered a 2oz. sample. Goes great in my Peterson System pipe with a giant cup of black coffee!

tobacco, you experience an explosion of flavors. The sweetness is not exaggerated. The black Cavendish is clearly present and goes well with the Latakia and virginias in harmony. Cordial comes very close to Dunhill's Apretif. If you like smooking the slightly sweeter tobaccos, Cordial is definitely worth it to smoke. o compare this one to some of the other C&D more "English" style bulk blends available. This one is most definitely for me a bit lighter, and doen't have the Oriental or Turkish "tang' of say, Stratfordshire or Tuggle Hall. The Latakia is a bit more restrained here, and there is a touch more sweetness from the BC, but what makes me smile is the overall smoothness of this one. This is a wonderful blend in the morning with a cup of coffee--beats the heck out of EMP, in my opinion. The Virginia is very smooth and cool, and the Latakia just sings enough in the background to harmonize perfectly. I do love the solidity of some of the others--Stratfordshire, Tuggle Hall, London Squire, Byzantium, and my favorite, Red Odessa, but I think Cordial will hold a place when I just want a smooth, lighter blend, but with a nice English/Scottish character, and relatively little Nic hit as compared to some of the others---the absence of Burley, perhaps. I found this blend to be a nice "crossover" between aromatic and English, not too bitey and great flavor. It is quite dry, smokes easily, smells wonderful, and I find myself naturally reaching for it now, which means I'll buy more!
