About This Pipe Tobacco

Founded in 1841, Drucquer & Sons was a famed London tobacco shop that relocated to Berkeley, California, in 1928. The shop was more than just a tobacconist though; it was a community. It was where some of the greatest tobacco-blenders in recent memory — like Charl Ehwa of McClelland and Gregory Pease of G.L. Pease — first plunged their hands into flagrant tobacco. The historic shop may be gone, but its rich history and brand of pipe tobaccos continues, reformulated from their original recipes by Gregory Pease (and made by Cornell & Diehl) for the modern smoker.

The Devil's Own is named for one of its most famous devotees: Sir Henry Irving, a revered London stage actor throughout the 1800s who played the devil's representative Mephistopheles in Faust. As a pipe tobacco, The Devil's Own is a wonderfully balanced English blend, somewhat sweeter and fuller than Inns of Court due to a greater proportion of Golden Virginias and Cypriot Latakia. The addition of a little Burley and unsweetened Black Cavendish adds body and richness to the smoke.

Product: Drucquer & Sons The Devil's Own 100g
Tin note of tangy vinegary fruit and fermented vegetation. Tobacco is a Ribbon cut of yellowish tan, light brown, brown and black. Moisture content is great. Burns moderate with few relights. The strength is medium and nic is mild to medium. No flavoring detected. Taste is medium and somewhat consistent, with notes of floral, tart fruit, very spicy, very woody, musty hay, lemon zest, very acidic, orange peel, dry, molasses, tangy citrus, spices, toast, bitter, grassy, sugar, a sour fermented vegetation background note, and a peppery retro. Virginia is leading with Burley and Cavendish supporting. Latakia supporting from the sidelines. Room note is pleasant to tolerable, and aftertaste is good....Read More

well what's really to say tried it out recently and it is surprisingly mild when I first lit it, it seemed to have a very toasty flavor but becomes more complex the further down the bowl you go
okay blend

Product: Drucquer & Sons The Devil's Own 100g
As a Tobacco Enthusiast i always enjoy a blend with a history or good story behind it so it was natural to try this blend. This is a blend for a busy person. It has an intensity under the flavor. The Burly is more creamy pepper with some virginias making a slight tingle on the tongue. Power level is a tick under medium and does not match the intensity of the flavors. The quality of the tobaccos keep this blend from being too rough but for me personally I find the blend unbalanced which GLP does have a few blends I find to be that way. Recommend to all Enthusiasts and newcomers for the historical implications...Read More
More of a Virginia blend.

Product: Drucquer & Sons The Devil's Own 100g
It seems to be more of a Virginia blend with a dash of Latakia. It is sweet and Citrusy, a little tangy but also a little earthy as you progress through the bowl. Yes the Latakia is still present, but is not in a prominent role. I'm kinda torn between calling it an English or a Virginia, but whatever you want to call it, it is simply fantastic....Read More
