G. L. Pease: Gaslight 8oz Pipe Tobacco

Product Number: 003-029-0086

Open up a tin of G.L. Pease's "Gaslight" and you'll find a surprising amount of empty space, the content's mass concentrated into dark, dense plugs; rich, compactly pressed bricks of exotic fragrance and flavor, with only subtle tones of lighter, warmer colors of leaf hinted at here and there. Suffice to say that with its images of deep, cool and misty nights lit only by the faint glow of soft gas-lamp flames, master blender Pease picked a very appropriate name for this Latakia smoking mixture, easily one of his most unique and evocative creations yet.

Rich Flavor and Creamy Smoke
May 05, 2025
Product: G. L. Pease Gaslight 2oz
This has quickly become one of my favorite blends. The flavor is excellent, producing a thick, creamy smoke. If you're a fan of Latakia blends, this one really delivers.
Surprisingly smooth

First off, I’d call these plugs and not cakes (Kakes) as they are far more dense and compacted than C&D typical Kakes. Tin note is of creosote and campfire. It’s a tough plug and it takes a little work to cut/tear n crumble it up a bit. Burns low and slow, making an exceptionally smooth smoking experience. Taste is creosote and campfire. I really enjoy it. Creamy smooth smoke, you get the tang of the orientals, a hint of sweetness from the red Virginia, and a wonderful smoky creosote-like after taste. Flavor gets stronger as you go but never became too much. I am loving this....Read More

“A Lot of Kia”
February 27, 2025
Product: G. L. Pease Gaslight 2oz
A lot of Latakia. I taste Latakia first and foremost big time and then just a little oriental, but no Virginia. If you like Latakia as the dominating taste, this is a good one. I rated it “average “because it is what it’s supposed to be, an English family tobacco w/ Latakia. Their description of their product is what it states. But, personally myself, for my own personal taste, I’m not a real big fan of a lot of Latakia in a mix. I do get a hankering for it from time to time, but just a touch of it like in Dunhill’s My Mixture 965. So, for me, this mix is too strong with Latakia. And being tightly compacted into 2 small rectangles, it’s like a concentrate with an overwhelming scent and taste of Latakia. I wouldn’t say it’s “bad”, just Latakia overkill....Read More
The Rolls Royce of Pipe Tobacco
July 18, 2017
Product: G. L. Pease Gaslight 2oz
I could gush on endlessly about how much I love Gaslight. There aren't enough adjectives in the English language to properly describe the depth of flavors in this wonderful blend. It's certainly not an all-day smoke, and for me, it's not even a "regular rotation" smoke. I prefer to really savor each bowl of Gaslight, searching each and every puff for the delicate nuances of flavor that subtly change as it's smoked. I feel that if I smoked this tobacco every day, I'd end up dulling my palette and lose my ability to appreciate less-complex tobaccos. In my opinion, Gaslight is best smoked sparingly to make sure it remains something special....Read More

Product: G. L. Pease Gaslight 8oz
Where do I begin? The first tin of this I ever bought I was in search for my first English blend and was entering uncharted territory. Upon opening the tin I was greeted with the smell of creosote, spice, earth, sweetness, leather, and something that can only be described as sea like. Right away I felt like I had made a mistake but decided to load up a bowl. As I put flame to the dark, murky, earth colored leaves that filled my pipe I was immediately awe-struck. Smoke, spice, leather, deep, dark, contemplative flavor. Immediately I was adrift in thought of walking down cobblestone streets lighted by the soft glow of gas lanterns; among horse and buggies, women in expensive hoop skirts and men in suits with top hats. The smell of chimney smoke wafting through the air intermingled with the smell of exotic spices, incense, vintage leather and the slightest smell of the musty, briny ocean water. As I entered back to reality, I retrieved my copy of the Complete Sherlock Holmes, lit a candle, poured a dram and settled in for what was one of the most relaxing, contemplative, and mysteriously wonderful evenings I have ever experienced....Read More
Apparently needs aging

Product: G. L. Pease Gaslight 8oz
I was excited to try another GL Pease blend after finishing a tin of Quiet Nights. Reviews always seem to mention Gaslight and so I purchased a can and dove in. Now, I’ve had some lat forward blends before this. That being said, I missed the added complexity brought by that pinch of perique. From the other reviews it would seem that this blend may benefit from some age. I will return to the Gaslight in a few months and, if I’m still only luke warm, I’ll wait another year. Updates to my review then...Read More

I’ve had this for awhile, smoked on it for a bit then sat it aside. Came back to it a few months ago and it’s still a delightful. Love sipping some good Bourbon with this. Compliments very well.
